Obama has been asking Congress to pass a jobs bill and help recover the economy for 3 years and they refuse to do it. We have had disasters, unemployment, illegal foreclosures and continued recession. Congress set on all this money while watching the suffering from Earthquakes, Tornado and Hurraines. Republican Senator Coburn exposed today a secret the GOP has been keeping and why Obama has continued to ask for jobs bills. Senator Coburn said their there is unused 649 billion dollars that is just setting there that could be used to help the people and wouldn't effect the National Debt. What a shock and 2 billion has been setting there since 1997. Just think of the disasters where taxpayers needed help and the GOP Congress said No and told citizens go ask the President. Speaker Boehner said he was giving Congress a week off because there's nothing important to do right now. Obama should have learned with the GOP and voters said they would do nothing to help this President in 2010..
I'm sure glad my kids are grown now because I was yelling so loud and proud when Peaches graduated even the other parents joined in yelling Peaches Peaches. I had the hold crowd yelling " Peaches I need the blanket" I was so cold at the football game and she was a cheerleader and the hold crowd started yelling the same thing and she got made at me and embarrassed.
Poor Mitt his lies are being exposed and it seems no one wants to be his VP. Gov. Christie is waiting but everyone else is saying no. Gov. Walker might be interested but he has that criminal defense fund. Gov. McDonnell has that label ultrasound he can't shake loose. I think Dick Cheney might be a good choice as he was President for 8 years.
I am sick of Congress for not telling the truth.
Good Evening Mr.Williams, a fine Friday broadcast as always.
First of all the report by Mr.Todd about President Obama's message on the economy which showed the progress towards recovery is slow, but the United States is in better circumstances than some European countries on the verge of bankuptcy. Nothing in the economy is really great, but momentum is building in the right direction although not at a fast enough pace.
The report by Stephanie Gosk showed how the economic troubles of Europe could have a ripple effect on the United States. Spain needing a bailout and Greece in financial jeopardy with elections in Greece coming soon. Many companies relying on selling goods to Europe find they require fewer workers since the demand for the goods has dropped in the European countries. The United States is watching and hoping for things to turn for the better. Time will tell.
The report by Mr.Mohyeldin from Cairo concerning the crisis in Syria showed the Syrian military is just relentless in killing innocent civilians in all these major towns. Hearing the accounts of the attacks was horrific and one wonders how long this violence will last. The explosions being heard in the Capital of Damascus are telling which could lead to protest and a major challenge to the power of Assad and his government. One hopes for peace for all the innocent civilians of Syria. The violence needs to stop.
The report by Anne Thompson about the racehorse, "I'll Have Another" out of the running for the Triple Crown by not running in the Belmont Stakes was disappointing news. Learning the horse has tendonitis in his front left leg was awful and now he is forced to retire from racing. It was so hopeful to think he could have possibly won the Triple Crown since he won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, but it is sad he won't be able to run in the Belmont. Although, it will be nice to see him lead the post parade. A nice horse.
Always enjoy Nightly News's tribute to the Graduating Classes at Colleges and Universities across the country. A great job! Congratulations to the Class of 2012!

my confederate flag neighbor across the street is going to change the oil in my car next thursday, i noticed that is 'flag day' on the calendar . . . . . we have another fire down here in the southwest, not in cochise county, thank goodness, it is southwest of nogales in mexico, but the wind is blowing all of the smoke thisaway. we got smoke from the new mexico fire, too, i finally got a sinus infection and was down for several days. the smell of smoke was really strong tonight. i would like to think they burnt out a meth or heroin operation down there, but it's probably just a brush fire. i was just opening my windows since i have so much shade and green around me from all of the planting i've done over the years, but that probably won't work tomorrow, so i'm glad i hooked up the swamp cooler's water line and turned on the valve today. maybe the smoke won't penetrate the swamp cooler pads like it blow in the windows. if that doesn't work, i'll just have to go wander around one of the stores during the heat of the day. maybe i can take some magazines to the coffee shop at the library building. i sure don't need another sinus infection, geesh! waiting for some tomato blooms to set, the wind two weeks ago blew the first blooms off and now they are just having flower drop. i know 3 years or so ago, the nursery man said the tomatoes didn't do a thing. i do have a couple of tiny zuchinnis coming on and a good bunch of cherry tomatoes. and lots of basil:-) waiting to see what the green beans will do, they are vining really well at the moment. lost two of the big boy tomato plants, so two are left. we do have a good farmer's market on thursdays and a small store that sells their produce 7 days a week, so that may be my cabresi tomatoes this year. my neighbor was bemoaning the fact that i will have no peaches to give her this year since we had very early warm weather and then a hard freeze in mid-march, i should call the apple and peach orchard in wilcox and see how they fared. their customers affect the entire town. at least the peach trees seem to be enjoying their season of rest, they are filling out with lots of new leaves and new small branches. hopefully we don't have the same crazy weather next year, i was very tired at the time of the freeze this year, or i would have gone out there and done the deep watering that has saved my peaches in the past since they are in the small area between the trailers. i am very glad that we have such very hard-working and dedicated farmers in the united states or we would all be starving to death! best, anna martina
I had the opportunity to watch the President's press conference yesterday (Friday) live. Later in the evening when checking the news, I was surprised and disappointed to see what had captured both the headlines and content of the stories about this press conference. The opponents of the president had successfully hijacked his main points, facilitated by the press, including NBC. For the >95% of viewers who did not see the President live, what they will know and remember is a comment from the President ("the private sector is doing fine") presented as the main point his talk. Secondarily, they will believe, as Mr. Todd said, that the President's concern about Europe's economy is the impact it will have on his own re-election. Neither one of these fairly represent the President's main messages or the good discussions with the press that followed. Viewers will not know that the President explained the connection between Europe's economy and ours; that he talked about the jobs in the U.S. that would have been created by now had congress passed the jobs bill he submitted 9 months ago (and that it's not to late to pass it now); and that his comment was in response to a question about the need to focus on the public sector relative to the private sector. Mr. Williams (and Mr. Todd), my wife and I choose to watch your news program every evening not the least of which because we believe that you present topics in a fair and balanced way. Concerning politics, we are not Democrats or Republicans. We are citizens concerned about the state of our country, and in particular our economy. We want to keep up with what our leaders are doing and saying, but we can't watch everything live as it happens. And when we can't, we count on you to tell us the most important messages. This time you apparently thought that the relevant story would be the rhetoric among politicians. This time you missed.
I had the opportunity as well to see President Obama's press conference and much is made of his gaffe
about the private sector and how his campaign has losts its groove. Hopefully, the First Lady has
read Terry McMillian's "How Stella Got Her Goove Back" (instead of the book discussed on The
View with the President), and then she can advise President Obama.
hi, phyllis, i read fyodr dostoevsky's biography on wikipedia the other night and was stunned to learn that he was an addicted gambler, he lost every penny as soon as it came in, including his new wife's money. what a terrible way for his wife and children to live, they were moving every 3 months for about 5 years! also read about quantum immortality and parallel universes. wish there was a way to clean a universe of all of the corruption and dishonesty so that we could sojourn in a relatively peaceful place during our sundry lifetimes! maybe all of the parallel universes (worlds without number) are the filter for cleaning house. i hope we get more proficient at the job! we have young catholic seminarians in town, maybe for the summer? i know they've had a seminarian asst. at st. andrew's roman catholic church around the corner from the house i grew up in in the past. take good care and have a great week-end, best, anna martina
anna martina, thanks and I will check out his bio soon, and I really do believe that it is possible
in our lifetime to live in your universe but, in my mind, it is The New Jerusalem which was the
theme in Dostoevsky's Crime & Punishment and, of course, the prophecy of Revelation 21. So
hang in there and have a great weekend. Best, Phyllis PS And I see America as The New Jerusalem
BTW anna martina, The New Jerusalem is John's Vision of The Great Commission and my
interpretation as well.
I am still waiting for The Second Coming of George W. Bush, but it is not a figment of my imagination that
we've had several years of record breaking corporate profits under President Obama. That said, Lester,
good news that the Chief Syrian Opposition Body elected a new leader and his name is Sieda who is also a
Kurd and his selection could be an incentive for Syria's minority Kurds to take a more active role in the
uprising. Until now they have stayed on the sideline. And this may be the news Russia's President Putin
has wanted to hear before tossing his name in the hat.
