The mission in Iraq was to remove Saddam Hussein from power. The mission was accomplished. "Thanks
to the Americans, they took us away from Saddam Hussein, I have to say that", said a Baghdad vendor
but I think we are going to be in trouble. Maybe terrorists will start attacking us again." I hope not,
but his words to me acknowledge the success of the mission in that Saddam Hussein was removed from
power. Former President George W. Bush changed the world with the ouster of Saddam Hussein, there
is no denying it as far as I am concerned, so the Bushbashers are wrong. Phyllis Kunz
A country has no right to remove any Dictator from power because they feel he shouldn't hold office. We have seen worse Dictators like Gaddafi's who the US befriended. The United Nations can agree by majority to remove a Dictator if he/she are seen to massacre it's citizens or cause a national threat to a nation. We saw the UN didn't believe the made up story by Colin Powell as he did his best with the fake information. Then Americans were told Bin Laden was helped by Saddam, and former Ambassador Joe Wilson spoke out about that lie. Americans trusted the President on his word of WMD's even knowing the weapons Saddam had were no good and USA were written as it was the weapons the United States gave him over 20 years ago, even the inspectors reported that. But lies worked with the WMD story, then some asked questions so the new lie was a Mushroom Cloud, that lie faded fast as the new story was Iraqi freedom. Powell apologized for lying to the American people and the United Nations. The illegal invasion was about control of Iraq's oil fields and nothing else. Every Military soldier knows that and so do the Law Makers who made money off of War profits. We wasted 1 Trillion dollars and more important over 4,000 brave soldiers. This was never a War it was always an illegal invasion based on complete lies. To say otherwise is to be stupid. Obama ended the occupation now the Contractors can't get tax payers money. Senator McCain is upset because he and Senator Graham made promises to continue the money flow.
As executions drop in the US it isn't good for those who cheered Texas Governor Perry for his large number of innocent/guilty executions. Even US Supreme Court Justice Thomas didn't bother to read a report and allowed Davis to be executed in Georgia. I remember a case of South Carolina execution in 1944 of a 14 year old kid. Much later it was learned the Judge/Prosecutor knew the little boy was innocent but the town wanted him killed. Interesting over 70 years and children still are protected as we see with Jerry Sandusky and others.
Ron Paul is moving on up. His mentor Storm Thurmond would be proud. Mr. Paul could win this time if he got the US Supreme Court to repeal voting rights as now their a majority of minorities that might not want to go back the days of the 40's. At lease he's not holding back as his ad points out 85 ethic charges filed against then Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Yes Newt admitted he did wrong and was found guilty of one count. Now who knows even convicted felon Jack Abramoff can run for office as the new law allows criminals to be elected. Mitt should just hang in and be the last man on the island like McCain was.
Golden Globe Awards missed the best of 2011 EMMA STONE. She is the best talent that has come out and should be recognized for her work. My two favorite male actors this year is Leo and Ryan Gosling. We have some super young actors today.
Many are still trying to spin the story that Bush captured Bin Laden and next it was Bush who end the occupation of Iraq. Texas books will read it was Obama who started the Afghanistan War and the illegal invasion of Iraq for control of oil. The National Debt that wasted trillions of taxpayers money that brought the country to a Recession was caused by President Obama. To get a good education parents might want to home school and get the text books from another country that prints the truth. With fake Historians like Newt Gingrich we're in big trouble and it's understandable why Americans rank so low in the World when it comes to education.
We should only listen to facts from Media Matters and Centers for American Progress!!!!!!!!
Jackie, WMDs were in Iraq at the end of former President Bill Clinton's term . S/S Albright went to UN's
Annan with her concerns about the WMD's. there. And I don't think she was still trying to impress her
high school girlfriends. Have a nice day all!!!
Phyllis here's the 411
The US government had been selling WMD to Iraq since Ronald Reagan was President, and probably for even longer. Until at least as late as George Bush's presidency, the USA continued to arm Iraq with nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
Colin Powell said the following
Some time ago, Powell apologized for presenting an inaccurate case to the United Nations on Iraqi weapons.
Phyllis everyone saw the WMD's on TV when the UN inspector located them as with all the rust and marked made in the USA. The WMD's were the one's the US gave Saddam during the Reagan term. But as reported on the Military website bad information was given to the CIA and sorry their were no weapons. But it's hard for many to believe we went so far to invade a country on bad information. I have picture of Baghdad and Babil in Iraq. Most of the information I got was from the foreign press, military website and Iraq/Afghanistan. I have my US flag from Afghanistan handing over the fireplace.
Jackie, Clinton term, Reagan term, we both have made the case about Saddam and WMDS but
the question now is which country got them from Saddam who was not stupid and moved them later
either to Syria or Iran. Assad 2 would not hestitate to use the WMDS. And he is backed by
Russia like his father. As for Iran, that would be an explosive situation. Scary stuff as Brian
would say. "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country" which I remember
from learning to type and now that sentence with its profound implication should resonate
to all men , of both parties, and fix Congress and unite our country. Phyllis
I heard the phase you gave and you might be right as the candidates running for President are saying they have no problem attacking Iran and Syria. McCain promised to invade Iran if he won office. Sometimes we don't learn as now the truth comes out that the US got false information about Iraq but it's to late for a do over and the lost of over 4,000 soldiers and 10 of thousands injured. Right now many are pushing to have enough votes to declare the US bomb Iran. President Obama isn't interested in sending our soldiers into another invasion based on emotion or politics.
At lease for now the soldiers have a President that is thinking first and no interested in War mongering and spending over a 1 Trillion dollars like we did in Iraq. 2013 we hear another President say the following:
President George W. Bush likes to call himself "the war president" and strike martial poses against patriotic backdrops, a trick he learned from another president who never saw military action, Ronald Reagan.
God works in mysterious ways, and I will leave it at that. Have a nice evening, Jackie,
and thanks for responding. Have a nice evening Phyllis
Lisa I had fun today on NBC World Blog and yes your angel Richard was live blogging it was great. He is the best and so insightful. I thought of you when I was putting my questions as he is your favorite and I know he must read your great post. Just wanted to let you know how it was getting a question answered by your Richard Engel.
Jackie
Good Evening Mr.Williams, a great broadcast this evening as always. Wonderful to see Richard on the broadcast! An such a historic day of the war ending in Iraq with the US Troops coming home. Certainly a very nice ceremony although considering the magnitude of the war it was a small ceremony as Richard pointed out with only a few hundred Troops. A very historic moment and wonderful the US Troops are coming home to their families.
Richard's report from Baghdad showed how this War in Iraq defined the lives of these US Troops and so many were lost and wounded in the war. It has been nine tough years for the US Troops with toppling a dictator, civil war, surge, training mission and now the US Troops are coming home. For the first time the US Command has no presence since the now 4000 troops are withdrawing. A costly war of billions of dollars, but the US Troops can leave the region with their heads held high. Richard's statement of being worried for the future of Iraq is understandable with a huge US Embassy in the region and many contrators along with other Government Officials. The region still has major problems such as infrastructure since their is still no power for hours or days at a time. As Richard stated it is abysmal.
One truly hopes that something good comes to the region and their is some brightness in the future.
