Hello Brian,
I watched your evening news last evening and found the segment on dogs detecting cancer very interesting. I tell you this because my daughter was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in June of 2006 and passed away just four months later since the disease has spread to her liver prior to diagnosis. The reason I'm saying this is that from approximately January, 2006 until her passing, her two dogs (a tiny toy poodle and a tiny teacup poodle) would fight over who could get closest to her (mostly her face). I have thought many times over the past 5 years that I believe the two dogs knew she has cancer but none of the rest of us did. Just thought your article was wonderful, especially in view of how I've felt about my daughter's dogs since that time. Thank you for your always interesting segments.
Harry, you do not cover the news at NBC any better than you did at CBS. I was hoping to hear something about the backdoor amnesty executive order the President signed before his vacation. He cannot create any jobs but he sure makes time for collecting money and signing a bill to try to secure the latino vote with a amnesty bill.
This president has no regard for the constitution what so ever. This whole administration is a shady operation.
Could have also mentioned how the first lady had to take a plane with security and escorts to Marthas vinyard so she could get a couple hour head start on her vacation. This first family has no idea how to save taxpayer money. Talk about sticking a finger in the eye of the taxpayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Smith, I bet you get a lot of good-natured ribbing about your last name:o) When you travel,
checking into hotels must be a trip. That said, I liked your broadcast, and you are smooth. An
excellent interview by Richard Engel with the Rebel who said they would get Gadhafi, and there
was such authority in his voice, he made a believer of me. Have a nice weekend. Phyllis Kunz
Good Evening Mr.Smith, Welcome to NBC! A fine broadcast this evening filling in for Mr.Williams. Looking forward to more of your fine reporting.
Now on to the broadcast. Always wonderful to see Richard on the broadcast. Please Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Richard's report from Zawiyah on the front lines of the rebels battling Qadhafi forces certainly showed how close the firing of rockets in the area. It was scary how close the rocket fired by the Qadhafi forces exploded as Richard stated he could see the smoke from not very far away. The rebels have made major advances towards the capital city of Tripoli and already taken over much of the city of Zawiyah as well as an oil refinery. It was interesting to hear from the rebel fighter who believes Qadhafi cannot leave Libya because they will eventually get him. Saying the conflcit is close to the end as the rebels close in on Tripoli from three different fronts. The Qadhafi forces are fighting back and are making the rebels fight hard for every mile. Time will tell in the coming days.
Excellent Reporting As Always Richard! Good to know you are away from the frontlines on safe ground in Zintan.
The report by Aditi Roy about the man in New Mexico named Antonio Diaz Chacon who saved the life of the 6yr old little girl who was kidnapped told of a true hero. After seeing the little girl being pushed into the van and then following the van which eventually crashed into a pole which led Mr.Chacon to be able to save her truly tells of how one person certainly did the right thing. One can understand the outpouring of gratitude towards him. He truly is the hero of the week. One hopes only the best for him and in becoming an American citizen.
Happy 65th Birthday to Former President Clinton.
Very moving to see Prince William and Kate Middleton in the areas on London that experienced the terrible riots and meeting with business owners.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Smith. Have a wonderful weekend. Peace to You and to All!
Be Well Everyone!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Excellent Reporting As Always!
Take Extra,Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

welcome, harry smith. this is the only news i usually catch and i catch it on the internet. was hoping ann curry would have another story on the famine in africa, i'm sure that is right around the corner. happy birthday to former president clinton. none of us are getting any younger. i am glad that i don't have any money to worry about wall street and the stock market. with the world economic situation teetering on the edge of disaster, i'm sure there are lots of nasty aliens leaving the planet and we're not attracting droves of new ones any more. and the united states must not look like the plum ripe for picking anymore, so characters like the flagg man in stephen king's stories can leave us alone. many, many wonderful, talented people in every field have come out of poverty childhoods. i see a silver lining, less hedonism. if companies like siemens have to train new employees, so be it. i think they will find that those employees turn out to be their most productive and their most loyal. and legislators who were raised in a poverty environment will be more concerned about those that struggle in america than a legislator who grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in their mouth. those are clueless, it's as if poverty level doesn't exist. they have their sights set on comfortable affluence. what can you do, i can't do anything, little me, but apparently sOMEBODY is considering it a priority. if they won't share their wealth, they will lose it by other means. all over the world. so be it. hoping that ghadaffi and assad are soon history. best, anna martina
I hope Gadhafi and Assad are too history too.
Here's what you may have missed on Nightly News this week:
Aug. 13: Nightly News aired a 2:20 minute story about "Doggy Date Nights" where shelter employees bring dogs to get-togethers with prospective adopters. This was a story on a network newscast. Really. I'm not kidding.
Aug 14: Once again, Nightly News aired a two-minute commercial for a ridiculous fake-gold Indian Head/Buffalo coin. It looks like one of those chocolate coins with a gold-foil wrapper. Clearly, this is a rip-off. Doesn't NBC have any standards for the ads it accepts?
Aug. 15: Brian Williams reported on Warren Buffett's N.Y. Times Op-Ed piece in which Buffett called for higher taxes on the super-rich. We know that Brian is fond of using phrases like, "For those of us...", or "If you're like me..." So I'm surprised he didn't begin this story by saying, "For those of us with 8-figure incomes...", or "If you're super-rich like me..." I guess Brian doesn't like drawing attention to his enormous wealth. It hurts the "regular guy" image he has carefully cultivated for himself.
Aug 16: The lead story on the CBS Evening News was that Walmart's second-quarter sales dropped by .9%--their ninth straight quarterly drop. Did Nightly News report this story? Of course not. Brian Williams does not report bad news about Walmart, a regular NBC sponsor. However, Brian is always happy to help his pals at Walmart by reporting good news. Last Jan. 20, Brian couldn't contain his glee while telling us that "Walmart...promised today to cut prices on fresh fruits and vegetables and to reduce fats, sugar, salt (and) eliminate trans fats in some of its own store brands by the year 2015." Maybe Brian should wear a Walmart hat when he reads their press releases.
*Also this night, Nightly News reported a 2:30 story about how people who are nice tend to earn less money than people who are not so nice. On July 25, Nightly News spent the same amount of time on a story about the appropriateness of wearing flip-flops to work. Is this what Brian Williams considers legitimate reporting on the workplace? It's appalling that Nightly News wastes our time with stuff like this when there are real news stories to be reported. Speaking of real news, Brian made sure to read a story about how people often pretend to be talking on their cell phones as a way of avoiding people they don't like. Well done, Brian. You should be proud of your broadcast.
Aug 17: The lead story was that the Joplin schools would open on time. It is unbelievable that a network newscast could make this the lead story. But Brian used to live in Joplin, so this automatically becomes the lead story. We also were treated to the third story in three weeks about Rachel Beckwith and her charity that brings clean water to areas that need it. I can't wait for next week's story on this charity.
Aug 18: Brian read a story about the celebrities who are most trusted as product pitchmen or pitchwomen. I'm surprised that Brian wasn't on that list, since much of his time on Nightly News is spent endorsing and promoting products like McDonald's, Kraft, Chrysler and Walmart. Brian also did a news story about Robert Redford's 75th birthday. Really. I swear. Of course, he didn't mention that terrorists crossed into Israel from Egypt and killed 8 Israelis and wounded more than 30. I guess that story wasn't important enough. But at least we know all about Robert Redford's 75th birthday.
Aug. 19: Harry Smith brought us the breaking news story about how Will & Kate toured one of the the sites of the recent UK riots. He also told us that Burger King has fired their spokes-king and won't be using him in future ads. That's what I love about Nightly News. They're always right there for the important stuff.
NBC FAN: Please mention Marv and Brian in the same sentence referring to differences of opinion about the broadcast. As I said, I may disagree with your comments, but you write well. Thanks! M.B.
Well Gov. Perry came out leading the way with his Christian Values and Texas policies then the following hit the youtube and front pages
BOA brought Gov. Perry and he accepted. then this
The revelation is particularly embarrassing for the Republican candidate as the company was boycotted by the American Family Association, which hosted Mr Perry's high-profile prayer rally in Houston a week before he kicked off his campaign.
In potentially even more damaging allegations, Mr Perry is accused of signing into law bills that could have benefitted the pornography distributor.

Well so much for Perry. Sarah Palin saw Banks buying candidates so she is looking to enter the race for some of that bank money that's being given out. Even Karl Rove said she will join the circus clowns as the money is good right now.
I'm sure glad no democrats take money from banks or wall street.
I went and found that video and it's a room full of people with Perry and supposedly some guy says BofA will take care of you to Perry. Well we now all the banks bought Obama and the democrats or the zombies would have died under their own enron balance sheets by now. Seen this DoJ doing anything about them? Nope me either.
Perry could always ask William Black to join his future administration in a position to kick some bankster butt. That would sure put an end to any rumors generated by the parasitic progressives.
Lester, It looks like curtains for Gadhafi which is good news indeed. My thoughts and prayers are
with the Libyan people and the rebels for a smooth transition and fair goverment. Another terrific
broadcast as always. Have a nice evening. Phyllis
hi, phyllis, you posted this and i had just gone through my fabrics yesterday to see what i could give the new poverty level family at the entrance to the park because there are no curtains on most of the windows. i found 5 long pieces of fabric that i'm never going to use and a few other household linen items to give the mom. i hope they find all of those missile in libya that may have been given to terrorists. egads. best, anna martina
good morning anna martina, you are a good neighbor if the russians armed gadhafi there should
be an investigation, have a nice day phyllis now for coffee I wish I still had a bag of
JamicancrAzy coffee. hmmmmm the best phyllis
I have a suggestion for the jewelry store owners. Put a sign on the front door "The gold in this shop protected by .44 MAGNUM!"
Lester, I tuned in to the Today Show as suggested for update on the Libyan Rebels' apparent victory,
and Andrea Mitchell said Russia may take Gadhafi. Tell me it isn't so. .........because to me that
would confirm Russia armed him with weapons. Which is not good. Have a nice day, and I will tune
in to Brian's broadcast this evening for the latest. Phyllis
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another great broadcast this evening. Richard has been doing an incredible job covering the rebels taking control of Tripoli. Richard's reports from the Today Show, Morning Joe, MSNBC News Live and Nightly News have all been excellent! A historic time for the country of Libya with the regime of Qadhafi crumbling and coming to an end.
Richard's report from now Martyrs Square in what used to be called Green Square showed how the country now is feeling liberated from the Qadhafi regime. Seeing all the celebrations throughout Tripoli and in other cities like Misrata and Benghazi revealed the jubliant people of Libya finding ways to express their joy. Tearing down the green flags of Qadhafi regime and holding up the rebel banners expresses the way the people now feel and are happy the regime is coming to an end. Still as Richard showed in the report by being near the Qadhafi compound there are still loyalists to Qadhafi fighting the rebels in firing guns and rockets. The rebels controlling 90% of Tripoli is encouraging, yet not knowing the whereabouts of Qadhafi is disturbing. The rebels will keep fighting until holding the entire city of Tripoli.
The report by Andrea Mitchell showed fear is slowly giving way to hope for Libya and President Obama is calling for the Qadhafi loyalists to put down their weapons and stop the conflict. Qadhafi may stand trial for war crimes as is called by officials. What is next for the region and how will a government be formed to make laws, have police and many other decisions for the country. Many questions as to the future of the region after all the cheering has ceased.
Mr. Miklaszewski's report told of how many missles stockpiled by Qadhafi many have been smuggled out of the country into the hands of terrorists. NATO airstrikes continue as long as Qadhafi may be in Tripoli and not confirmed to be any certain place.
Mr.Maceda's report about Qadhafi and his 40yrs in power showed how many terrible things he did during his regime. Causing the losses of so many lives of innocent people is horrible and he should stand trial for all of these awful crimes against humanity.
On a weather note Hurricane Irene could cause some awful weather for the Eastcoast and nearing the weekend as it has already caused damage to Puerto Rico. One hopes everyone keeps safe and it doesn't cause too much damage.
A wonderful Memorial to Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!
Be Well Everyone!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Excellent Reporting from Libya!
Take Extra, Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

Brian, Terrific coverage by you as concerns Libya and also by Richard Engel, as always I am
an eternal optimist and firmly believe that the Middle East will eventually become a nation. Out of
our Civil War a great Nation was born. Great that Florida was not hit, but it looks like like
Mamagaddeon will hit South Caroline this weekend. Such weird weather in the world now
Have a nice evening! Phyllis
putting up peaches, put the peels in a plastic bag in fridge until trash day. the alpha hydroxy acid in the peach juice breaks through the seal at the bottom of the bag so that it leaks, wow, those acids are powerful, no wonder they're such great belly washers!:-) no bacteria or virus in my belly stands a chance!!!:-)
anna martina, my neighbor makes the best peach pie ever and what a good neighbor she is because
her husband suprised my husband and me with her peach pie.l I kissed him on the cheek for
bringing the pie. What a wonderful surprise and it made my day. Heck, my week! My husband's
too
I like the anti-psychistrists but I click with the great Jung and he first noted the psychological difference
between Arabs and Europeans in the 1920's. Wrote Jung: "The Arab is closer to life than we are and
their struggle to become aware of their own political existence is in part self-defense against the
forces threatening them." The awesome author, H. Rider Haggard of the most amazing book SHE
ever written called it a fundamental racism." They want what they can't have. As Nancy Peolos said of the Jung Red Book, it is the most out there book.! But times are changing and it is a changing situation in Libya
