Talk of Danger Mouse...at 'Spider-man'

Today is for the music-minded: If you follow the industry, and especially U2, then you've read that they have drafted Danger Mouse to produce their next record. Danger (Mr. Mouse to you) is a former guest of ours on BriTunes (remember: I didn't name it), and his latest quirky release--on top of his work as part of Gnarls Barkley, and his beautiful work on Broken Bells--shows exactly the range and ability that attracted him to Bono and Edge. For U2, it will be a big change from Lanois and Eno, and while I had both musicians in front of me yesterday, I thought I'd talk about their new producer. Enjoy.

Brian, hope this isn't a new thing you're trying out on the blog, posting after midnight !

But since you start out by saying "Today" is for the music minded, I guess it should've been posted earlier in the evening as always. Look forward to tomorrow's or should I say today's blog at the usual appointed time.!

      Good evening from Norway, Brian!

It's been a while since I've come here, but there are a few things I wanted to mention this evening (local time).

      1. I hate to be a pessimist, but I really do still miss the old format of your Daily Nightly blog. It seems as if the conversation has shrunk ever since the change, both between the readers/commenters and with you, in my opinion. Maybe I'm just a sentimental, I don't know.
      2. Last week my boyfriend Eiric and I spent a week in the city of Bodrum, Turkey. We had a great time (beautiful with lethal heat and humidity), but we quickly discovered a heartbreaking problem facing Turkey that seems to almost be the norm--a massive stray dog and cat problem. I made it my own personal assignment to photograph and write about the issue and what we saw once we got back here to Norway, which I will have up on my blog (caryskelton.com) before the end of this week. I don't believe that my blog post will generate enough attention to create any difference for the strays of Turkey, as I notice it has been an issue for many, many years. But I wanted to at least do whatever I could to get anyone to notice. I know we have our own strays longing for love and care in the United States, but I had never in my life seen such an enormous stray problem, and one that the people seem so unaffected by. It's heartbreaking...
      3. And a question: Have you been watching your new colleague/competitor, Scott Pelley of the CBS Evening News? I proudly admit that I have, and think they are doing a really great job so far. Still, I remain a Nightly devotee. I am curious to know what you think of the change so far!
      4. And finally, I couldn't let you get rid of me in a blog post saying "music-minded" without a quick suggestion of songs I am currently stuck on: K.D. Lang & the Siss Boom Bang - "A Sleep with No Dreaming" (a Starbucks song of the week I picked up before coming to Norway. Beautiful!), Michael Stipe ft. Chris Martin "In The Sun" (from the Gulf Coast Relief album in '06, still resonates with many things going on today). That is all for now. I will suggest more later!

Thanks for putting up with me again! God natt fra Norge/Good night from Norway, Brian!

I agree with missing the old format and where are Lester's Blogs? Inquiring minds want to know.

cary, that is wonderful that you are getting out to see the world:-) very happy for you. no stray dogs, but LOTS of stray cats in bel-aire mobile home park, it has a reputation. enjoyed joshua bell's and sam haywood's classical music program at the u of a in tucson. they played edvard grieg's sonata no. 2 for violin and piano in g major, op. 13. mexico's indigenous art starts looking very scandinavian after awhile and the renderings of the 'viracocha' out of la paz, bolivia, who also came to mexico, look very scandinavian, with long, curly beards! it's a small world:-) my niece, when she was a child, kept painting herself as a blonde. take very good care, best, anna martina

"This song is not yet over." which seems approp of Spider-Man.

Marvel's Spider-Man to be killed, which will be announced Wednesday. The question now is how soon

              before he's resurrected?
