Laura Ziskin has died. She was my friend--but much more importantly, she was a life force and a force in Hollywood. As a film producer, her credits included "Spider Man" and "Pretty Woman," "No Way Out" and "As Good As It Gets." As a life force, she put up a heroic fight against cancer. First diagnosed in 2004, she launched into a fierce fight, and on her own launched "Stand Up To Cancer." She got Katie Couric involved, I got involved, so did Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer and a slew of Hollywood celebrities. I'm proud of the work we did in our two televised fundraisers, both of them broadcast across the board on all the big networks. What a legacy Laura leaves. I just wish she didn't have to leave. My condolences to her family.
And all of us members of E Street Nation are sending prayers to The Big Man. We learned last night that Clarence Clemmons has suffered a serious stroke at his Florida home. A source close to the family tells me he's shown improvement but faces some crucial days ahead this week. Please pray for him, and not just because we cannot imagine life without his horn. We cannot imagine life without his huge spirit. That's the thing about life forces.
Back from a few days away, I hope you can join us tonight for the broadcast.
