I recently told a friend of mine, nothing makes me worry about our future more than the realization that our trains travel at the same speed they did during WWII; our planes fly at the same speed they flew when Eisenhower was President; and we're about to end the manned space program. From the looks of things, Peggy Noonan was thinking many of those same thoughts when compiling this weekend's Wall Street Journal column. One thing we seem to build better these days is weather: Tonight we are looking at a storm system that could end up affecting 150 million Americans before it's all over. I hope you had a happy Easter weekend, and we hope you can join us tonight.

The weather, the wars, the price of oil - we all need a good laugh. Check out one of the best ways to get some laughs at the tap of a finger - for Free. "The Gift of Laughter" app on iTunes Store - people laughing might even make you feel as good as spending hours watching puppies sleep and it's quicker.

Brian lovely puppies but you didn't get the memo to show us some cats too.
I'm looking forward to Wills/Kate's wedding. It's late so I will take a nap to stay up that late. Just think many of us got to see Wills born and grow up to be a fine young man. Diana would be so proud of Wills. Diana changed the lives of Charles and Queen Elizabeth. Diana always said she told her boys to marry for love and it seems Wills did just that. Americans and even some Brits are taken back as the kids invite their ex's and did the wedding the way they wanted. Many ask by President Obama and other World leaders aren't invited but these kids aren't in that stuff yet. Kate seems like a lovely young lady and at lease Wills didn't say what his Dad said about Diana and love. Wills will bring a big change and respect back to the Royal Family. I expect Queen Elizabeth now has someone qualified to take her place as Charlies really never wanted to be King. Americans aren't much into this wedding of Wills/Kate because America is use to Brad/Angie, Teenage Moms and Daddy/Mama Drama. Chelsea Clinton showed we have respectful young people who get married and have values.
With the blame for gas prices being high going to Obama, I expect Obama will be blame for the same high prices in 2004, 2007 and 2007 even if he wasn't President. It's been know that the Oil Companies raise the cost for their big profits. Once Reagan allowed deregulation it was open for Oil Companies, Banks and Corporations to charge what ever they want.
No one bothered to listen to Chief Justice Roberts but now even the Virginia Attorney General got a lesson learned by first year law students, as how the US Supreme Court picks cases they will hear. What most taxpayers don't know is it cost big bucks to file with the Supreme Court and these Republican Attorney Generals just wasted money. A graduate law student laughed when these guys filed, now that says alot about who people pick as their Attorney General. Viriginia like many States are struggling with budgets yet, these Attorney Generals see no problem wasting money. Maybe next year and yes more money.
Like it or not we're watching history as the Middle East is changing. We see even Senator McCain is trying to get in on the act but only the US media is listening. Senator McConnell and his party traveled to Afghanistan, South Korea talking to troops to make up for the threat the GOP made of shutting down the government and not paying the troops. Most likely blaming Obama for everything they did. Let's hope Senator McConnell didn't talk about how the Law Makers are turning a blind eye to the banks illegally foreclosing on soldiers homes while their overseas. The Media did a short clip on homeless Military families not knowing their homes were foreclosed on illegally.
Looks like everyone knows the Ryan/Lobby Budget Bill was a fix for Corporations. Poor Rep. Duffy couldn't answer questions and told a guest to hold his own town hall meeting.
Poor Mitt Romney did an op-ed written by his lawyers and oops thought it was peace time when attacking President Obama. But Mitt is now showing off his wife to get votes. Mrs. Romney and educated stay at home Mom, who's job is to serve and care for her husband. She has the best medical care money can buy, but others will have to take care of themselves or go to Canada. The Donald will use his show to campaign for President. Even that wont help him but it might increase his low ratings. The Donald might have to weight if he wants to continue to fake performance while losing money for his charities and even might lose that contract with Russia. Russia thought Donald was a wealthy businessman when he asked about putting Casino's in Russia. Well they learned he's a fake wannabe and isn't worth that much but sells a great story.
A two-minute "news story" about the latest puppy-cam? Are you kidding me? The broadcast featured three promos for the story as if it was really important. And Brian raved about the puppy-cam, calling it "The best web-cam of all time." Nightly News should just be renamed "Stuff Brian Likes" because that's really what it is. Brian does "news stories" on anything he wants. Dogs, Springsteen, firefighters, NASCAR, Pringles, Donald Trump, Medal of Honor winners, Gulf Coast shrimpers, Ted Danson, Paul Simon--it's unbelievable. Even worse--NBC did not even bother airing an east coast version of Nightly News on Sunday because obviously the hockey game was more important. But we get two minutes of puppy-cam. Great. How many actual news stories did Brian ignore so he could show us the puppies? How much time does he waste every year on things that have no news value? The FCC should force Brian Williams to step down from his job and revoke NBC's right to air a news broadcast.
Yet again, Brian has broken his promise not to do stories on Sasha & Malia Obama. On Jan. 5, 2009, Brian vowed not to run any stories on Sasha & Malia unless there is a compelling reason to do so. And for at least the fourth time, he has broken his promise. What was the compelling reason? Because they were reading "Where The Wild Things Are"? How about a promise not to show anymore puppy-cam stories (or eagle-cam stories or owl-cam stories or animal-cam stories of any species)? How about a promise not to show any more gratuitous stories about Gabby Giffords or Donald Trump or Michael Douglas? Or discontinuing the "news stories" whose only purpose is to promote Sunday Night Football? How about not showing endless movie clips as a substitute for news coverage? Here's a radical idea: Why not show 22 minutes of actual news each night? I know it sounds crazy, but why not give it a try?
My husband did agree with you about puppy-cam. "That's it, I thought I was going to see something,
just a web site." But Brian is the anchor of NBC Nightly News, so it is his right to air his stuff. When
you have your own broadcast, you will have that privilege. Perks come with the terrority. And that's
the way it should be. Have a nice day.
PS Dave, I did not know that about their form of banking, etc. Many thanks!!! Phyllis
I thought it was sufficient for Brian to link to the puppycam here, and even fade out the news with it. I agree there is far more important and enlightening, even happy stories out there that would merit 2 minutes. Up your game Brian!
I have had puppy cam in a small window on my computer since I saw the post here that it was back on. My blood pressure is much lower, I am sure. What was most amazing was that after BW story last night, the number of viewers went up by 20,000 in about 7 minutes. Four people posted complaints, 20,000 tuned in after the East coast airing -- not a bad ratio.
the puppy cam story absolutely does NOT belong on a serious news broadcast!!! i turn on nightly news to see real news and i do not need to watch internet cams on there!!
