For all those who are following the current conflict in Libya and U.S. policy on arming the rebels (including President Obama's answer to my question yesterday), I recommend you watch our reporting tonight from Richard Engel, who rode along with the rebels today. It has not been a good 24 hours for their cause. They are heavily under fire and retreating to the East. Whoever the journalist was over the weekend who dubbed the United States the "air wing" of the rebel army—that air wing is not providing the cover (or flat-out destruction) required for the rebel component to advance. At least not as presently constituted.
So: please join us for that tonight.

Brian Williams: please tell Richard Engel to tell the rebels to stop shooting into the air ... wasting precious ammo and possibly killing friends and family when the bullet finally reaches the earth again.
Brian just wanted to point out something others might want to learn from. NBC and White House Tweets give all the up dated information. The Law Makers might want to sign up for those tweets since they don't read the briefs. We talked about the news and one person said how do Americans know more then Law Makers when every thing is online and Tweeter. At lease we learned Speaker Boehner told a feb and did get the briefs but it's politics as usual.. Now some are doing the spin and questioning the Libyan rebels fighting Gadhafi as the old tricks come back or rebels really Al Queada? I remember when Americans were need to be put in fear the Government say Al Queada jump, then it got old. Hank Paulson wanted Banks to get those bonuses so he said the US Government will collapse if Banks don't get bailouts, it worked. Richard is so good and gives honesty back to Journalism. He's today's Edward R. Murrow.
Obama doesn't have White House insider reporters like Bush did so we have to depend on the honesty of the Law Makers and well that's not working. At lease MSNBC, NBC and the White House keep Americans up to the minute with what's going on and other can catch up later or wait for the Law Makers to apologize for their misstatements.
Good news Obama isn't stealing Gadhafi's money like the US stole Saddam's money. The money does belong to the citizens of Libya. Many Law Makers have said Obama should use the money for the USA. Well no matter how you look at it, it would be stealing and it doesn't belong to the US. Honesty isn't popular with current Law Makers, greed is in.
see you same time same place
Question to NBC staff. Give more information on NBC Instagram we would love to use it but need more information on how to use it. pass this on please thanks your friends/viewers in California
Good Evenign Mr.Williams, Another great broadcast this evening! Always wonderful to see Richard on the broadcast!
First of all Richard's report from Benghazi telling of riding along with rebels and seeing how they are being seriously pushed back by Gadhafi forces. As Richard showed the Gadhafi forces are on the offensive pushing back the rebels. The forces are now using jeeps rather than tanks to move in order to avoid being attacked by the air strikes since the rebels also travelling by the same vehicles. The rebels appear dejected, confused and simply frustrated that all the advances they made recently are being erased. Hearing from the 25yr old rebel who dropped out of school to join the fight simply told of wanting to fight for freedom and die for the country. He certainly is showing devotion to the fight in sleeping in his car and eating just tuna with stale bread. The rebels are losing ground and need the air support in order to make any progress. But as Richard stated two major problems arose in the day when the rebels fired a mortar to the side and another firing in the wrong direction into a civilian city. The rebels truly need better communication, a commander and knowledge of how to use thei weapons. One hopes they can regain progress. Time will tell.
The report by Mr.Allen in Syria showed much violence and a defiant president not willing to step down frm power. Hearing about the brutal force by security forces against the protestors was awful and one hopes things will become more calm. Yet, the president is determined to crush the protestors and there seem to be no limits to what he will do. Hopefully, one hopes peace will come soon.
The report by Mr.Lewis showed how radiation has been found in trace amounts in 14 States across the nation. It was disturbing to learn many monitors are not working properly and might not work well in an emergency situation. One hopes all the plants will be inpected to make sure everything is working well.
Interesting photos of planet Mercury from NASA!
The report by Anne Thompson about the missing laptop of the BP employee is worrying news to all the people whose information is stored because of the claims they needed to make after the oil spill disaster. One hopes the laptop is found and none of the information is compromised.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!
Be Well Everyone!

Why didn't Brian claim that his Tuesday interview with Pres. Obama was "exclusive"? We all know that Brian likes to say that NBC interviews are "exclusive" even when they aren't. Recently, Brian claimed that an NBC interview with Michelle Obama was "exclusive", and Lester Holt made the same claim about a Charlie Sheen interview (although they each appeared on another network the same day as their NBC interviews). So even though Pres. Obama also gave interviews to ABC and CBS on Tuesday, I'm shocked that Brian didn't announce that his Obama interview was "exclusive". I'm also surprised that Brian didn't ask the President about the egregious corporate income tax loopholes that allow multibillion-dollar companies like G.E. to get away with paying no income tax. I guess it must have slipped Brian's mind.
Brian, President Obama is pragmatic; whatever works, and though hindsight, the following comments
from another blogger may still be revelant: "Easy solution (When the solution is simple God is answering
-Albert Einstein) Anyway five minutes after any leader a) refuses to step down from power or b)
declares himself leader for life, then the UN must give a one-week warnng to step aside
voluntarily. On Day 8 "step him aside" by force. Get some gonads like little Hondoras did two
years ago when their president decided to change his own term limit; then throw him out on his
rearend and if tries to comeback in he will be arrested or thrown in prison Hugo Chavez didn't
like it, being it was his own modus operandi, but who cares, it worked." Whatever works!!!!

Good morning, Brian.
I am home sick today and catching up on things I have fallen behind on in the news. It's been so busy here lately I've done a poor job of keeping as caught up on everything as I usually am. I still have that never-ending passion for journalism (I'm currently reading 'Peter Jennings: A Reporter's Life', my boyfriend's longtime hero in journalism. What a great guy Peter was. I'm just sorry I wasn't around early enough to follow his entire career), but working every day in retail is very mind-numbing and somehow just sucks the motivation out of you like a leech, as I'm sure every successful journalist today remembers the feeling. But this Summer, I'm turning that all around and with the help of my boyfriend will be on my way forward!
Last night's report about the cost for medication for mothers to prevent premature births was just sad. I don't understand how despite the cost of the research and development they could jump their prices as dramatically as they did for such an important medication. What will happen when we finally find a cure for cancer? God knows how much money has been and is still being put forth for the cure, I can only imagine how much the cost would be for that if it is based on research and development. In my opinion, these costs are very unrealistic. Who on earth could afford it? I guess having a boyfriend from Norway and knowing their healthcare costs and benefits really puts a different perspective on how things are in our country.
And as always, excellent reporting from Richard Engel and all foreign correspondents on the ground in Libya and elsewhere around the globe. They have the best and some of the most important jobs in the industry, or in the world for that matter, and I am forever grateful for their sacrifices to get the story home. And congratulations to Richard on his David Bloom Award! Take care out there!
Have a great day, Brian. I miss communicating to you through your blog. It feels like I've sort of drifted apart from an old friend, if that makes any sense. See you this evening.
-Cary
P.S. On our way back from our vacation in Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to meet your cameraman, Dwaine Scott, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport! Great guy! It was quite a coincidence because we ended up making two connections before coming home and had four hour layovers at both connections. What a long day...and my very first red-eye as well as turbulence! I absolutely love flying.
Brian: Tonight's broadcast will allow viewers to get inside the world of rebel opposition in Libya. Richard Engle will again be risking his life to broadcast another accurate report. What happened to the air cover in certain rebel positions? The rebels are having difficulties advancing in most areas. We neeed more air power to make sure they can either hold their positions or advance. The president told you we are supporting the rebels, but maybe not as efficiently as possible. We'll here more from Richard about this deficiency either tonight or on a upcoming report. I'll catch you on tonight's broadcast.
Gadhafi needs to go. Craziness needs to end. When will Gadhafi give it up already? No time like the
present is my answer to the question. Phyllis Kunz
