I have been disappointed the past few days with the coverage or lack thereof of the growing unrest in the Middle East. I am happy that Gabby Giffords is doing so well, but the developments in Egypt and elsewhere should not take a second seat to coverage of her continued improvement. What's happening in the Middle East could have extremely dire consequences for global peace. It is hugely important and yet snow storms and Rep. Giffords seem to be getting more air time this week so far...perhaps today's developments in Cairo will be enough to wake up the Nightly News????
Kind of makes you miss the good old days when Bush was in office and every night's news started with the number of troops we lost, where the bombs went off, how much gas prices had increased and what today's Bush poll numbers mean. (always followed the next day with another set of poll numbers from another outfit.)
Not very likely, Tuscarora. Egyptian President Mubarek, despite being a strongman dictator, is a good buddy of the U.S., and anything that upsets the status quo, aside from natural disasters, which can be approached from an emotional human interest angle (NBC's specialty), tend to be ignored or downplayed. Besides, any coverage of the turmoil in Egypt would cut into the all-important "Making a Difference" segments that Brian is so fond of. NBC News would rather distract us with fluff than inform us about the realities of the world.
Al Jazeera is eating your lunch.
I flunked history in my Junior year of H.S. but a friend brought me up to speed about Britian's occupation of
Egypt during the early decades of the 20th Century. In history, it seems that Great Britian has much to
answer for. Just my opinion.
Tear gas made in the USA.
Maybe we need to get Facebook and Twitter to embed "Made in the USA" on every screen.
Richard did a good job showing the markings on the tear gas and we remember how the Iraq weapons of mass destruction also had marking made in the USA. As reported in Afghanistan some IED's found had markings made in the USA. It seems the US does a great deal of selling to Middle Eastern countries. Making money selling weapons is a big business and very profitable as we even sold illegal Cluster Bombs to Israel.
Egypt is even pulling a favorite trick of leftist politicians here in America. If their power is challenged they pull the police off the streets and release the murders, rapist and thieves on the people. Leftist-America sucks.
Richard Engel's reports on Friday and Saturday were neither unbiased nor professional, in my view. On Friday evening, he showed tear gas canisters "Made in the USA" as though the US was involved in qwelling the riots. Did he report the makers of RPGs and AK-47s when he reported from Bagdad or Kabul?
On Saturday evening he was videotaped on the armored vehicle with the protestors - looks like he's one of them - not an unbiased reporter telling a story to the world.
Shame on NBC News for these mistakes.
David
"Made in the USA" and, of course, America will get the blame which always distresses me.
Isn't it funny how people form New York are always willing to "Blame America First"?
I was wondering what the Hamburger of Egypt is, what's the common person's meal?
If it comes in a paper wrapper that wrapper should have "45% inflation made in New York by lawless bankster gangsters"
Blame New York first!!! Turn about is fair play. bahahahahhaaha
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
"Out of Egypt I have called my son" which, in my religious worldview, may relate to an emerging leader in
Egypt; a possiblility. Scripture quote is from Hosea. I agree with the Bible scholars who do not believe
Jesus is the fulfillment of this prophecy. Just my opinion!
Brian -
Please - please - please....
Leave Egypt TONIGHT... our anchors need to be safely at home...
