Meet the Parents...and The Kids Are Alright

NBCUniversal

Brian Williams writes: Today NBC underwent the second change in ownership in its history. In a studio 55 stories beneath the red neon letters atop this building that will continue to glow "GE,” Comcast of Philadelphia officially took the reins of ownership in what is, at first, a 51/49 takeover deal, leaving GE the minority owners. It was my job to preside over an employee forum, introducing the new CEO Steve Burke to employees.  Steve is the scion of a great television family: His father, Dan Burke, of Cap Cities/ABC fame, is one of the greatest and most popular executives of the modern television era. Steve was literally raised on over-the-air television, and now runs a massive cable, broadcast and internet communications company—the largest there is. And so: While you won't notice anything different about us tonight, a new era begins here behind the scenes. And there are many, many stories to report to you tonight. Beginning right outside our window. We hope you can join us tonight.

Brian-

I'm not being frivolous, but I'm a great admirer of your ties. I'd like to know where you get them. Not only do you look good, you're a worthy successor to Tom Brokaw.

In my opinion, Brian Williams is a better man than Tom Brokaw who lost me when he said a

black man should not replace Tim Russert on Meet the Press because then everybody would say

he got the job because he was a black man. Come on!!! I love Brian's and Lester's ties which

I suppose makes me "bi-sexual":o) Phyllis Kunz

I must of missed that one. White people in the beltway say the darndest things but right wing radio wouldn't be near as funny without them to mock. Anyone ever seen Chris Mathews and Tracy Morgan at the same time? just asking bahaahahaha

Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another great broadcast this evening as always! A big day for NBC as a major change on ownership occurs. Nice to know you presided over the employee forum with CEO Steve Burke. Exciting changes for NBC and the news is always excellent.

Now on to the broadcast. First of all Richard's report from Cairo along the banks of the Nile River where a "Day of Rage" planned for tomorrow is definitely disturbing. With marches starting at 7 mosques and 3 churches then on to Tahir. Violence is predicted by US officials and it is a scary situation. Seeing the violence outside of Cairo in attacks on police with 87 injured it is frightening especially when one learns protestors stole many weapons from the station. The unprisings spreading all over the Middle East regions with Egypt and also Yemen because the people simply are angry with the government. Being organized by social networks it certainly can gather many, many people quickly. Egypt being an ally of the United States makes this an extremely difficult situation. One hopes things calm soon. Always praying for peace.

Excellent report as always Richard! Please Stay Extra,Extra Safe Always!

On a weather note the reports by Mr.Alexander and Mr.Costello showed how the Northeast has certainly received too much snowfall already.

Hearing from Mr.Alexander from Central Park about the 19 inches in the city is incredible. It is good the plows are out in force taking care of clearing the streets. With 17 States affected by this winter storm it is crippling to all the cities and one can fully understand why residents are having enough with shoveling all the heavy wet snow. The thunder heard where Mr.Costello was reporting was scary and would be startling to anyone. One hopes power will be restored to residents and hopefully everyone is safe and sound. Keep Extra Warm and Safe Everyone! One hopes the winter storms will cease.

The report by Mr.Bazell on rehabilitation showed how long a road to recovery for patients. The patients working with so many different specialists all helping in the recovery effort. Seeing the soldier getting therapy for his brain injury from a roadside bomb in 2003 was heartbreaking. Everyday an improvement, but it takes alot of time. Gabrielle Giffords will have a long road to recovery, but she has made great progress already.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!

          Be Well Everyone!

Stay Extra,Extra Safe annd Well Richard! Excellent Report from Cairo. Please Stay Extra Safe in the region. A tense situation in Egypt.

Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

Hey Bri – Glad to hear you confirm that COMCAST will not replace GE (as GE replaced RCA) on the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, sometimes, since 90% of my employment has been around the Rock Center area, I still occasionally refer to your place of employment as the RCA Building.

Also, glad to hear your acknowledgement of the passing of Gladys Horton this evening, since she never reached “Diana Ross status” at Motown, glad to hear she got some recognition on a major newscast.

Just wondering why the heck you would give airtime to two emptyheaded, idiotic teenagers (is that redundant, since I’m referring to teenage boys?) about their wasting a perfectly good piano in the middle of an ocean? If that guy does get accepted to the music school he hopes for, could you please send me an application for employment at NBC with the guarantee that I will be hired?

Am concerned about this Comcast/NBC merger. Comcast is decidedly right wing, NBC usually stays neutral or leans a bit left. How will this merger or buyout or whatever effect NBC News content? Comcast is about as right wing as the tea party.

Brian, good news you are still in the GE family. About the piano, I believe Jerry Lee Lewis after a performance

of "Great Balls of Fire" on stage set fire to his piano. My point is: You will not offend the authorities if you

                own the stage Phyllis

OK you New Yorkers seem to consider Tennessee snake oil salesman credible, at least that's what you've tried to make us believe about Al Gore. Here's the deal. Return all the money you've stolen from the rest of the country, throw the guilty in jail and we'll make the snow stop. What ya mean money can't buy you climate? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. bahhahaha

Dave, Some say shock is a dying word. Few people have been able to use it well since Claude Rains in

Casablanca (Of course I am quoting from a book). And now you!!! Rains so famously said,

I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here." as he pocketed his winnings in

the movie, which I have not seen. Phyllis

Brian you brought back memories of those great years of JFK conflict with Nikita Khrushchev and those days of Vietnam. The song Please Mr. Postman was due to soldiers having girlfriends back home that were waiting to hear from them. I got to see the The Marvelettes and the others at Atlanic City boardwalk. Dancing and singing along driving my Dad crazy. May Gladys Horton rest in peace.

Now that the facts and proof are out about the crimes committed it's time for the DOJ to take over and bring criminal charges. Blankfine can't use the excuse he was doing God's work by stealing. It seem even the French President gave a smack down to Chase criminal Jamie Dimon. Finally former Fed Chief Alan Greenspan got caught. I couldn't understand why so many were shocked at the collapse of the Stock Market and the Recession. 2001 Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said this would happen but he was quickly fired after his announcement. No wonder Bernie Madoff had to wait so long for his arrest, the crooks were stealing as much as possible before Obama got sworn in office.

Brian: The Comcast takeover is no big deal. The peacock may fade away, but the quality of programming will not. I subscribe to Comcast, and I wouldn't trade cable companies, therefore there is no need for viewers to worry about content.

The situation in Egypt is progressing into a flaming series of protests. The same holds true for Tunisia, and Yeman. I'm sure that Richard Engle will be quite busy for a while. We can count on his excellent reporting to keep us all abreast of the unsettling events in that part of the world. These events are continuous breaking news stories. Looks like the people are speaking out in their own way. I'll catch you on tonight's broadcast.
