Two weeks after the shooting rampage that left six dead and a dozen injured, including Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Brian Williams returns to Tucson today for an exclusive interview with Suzi Hileman. Hileman, a Tucson resident and neighbor of Christina Taylor Green, escorted nine-year old Christina to Giffords' event outside a local grocery store on January 8, 2011. In her first interview since the shooting, Hileman shares the details of that fateful Saturday afternoon, and how she is coping with both her own physical injuries and the loss of young Christina. You can watch a preview of the interview below.

This is so sad and a also grim reflection of our current society.
Brian: I'm looking forward to your latest report from Tucson tonight. I'ts encouraging to note that Gabrielle Giffords is now in rehab in Houston, Texas. She is now in close proximity to her husband at the Johnson Space Center. The Arizona Congresswoman is making remarkable physical progress toward a hopefully full recovery. Thanks to the medical team and the quick reaction by that member of Gabby's staff, she is doing well in recognizing people and her environment. It will take a long time for Gabby to attain her normal mental and physical attributes, but she'll get there, because she's a fighter. I'll catch you from Tucson on tonight's broadcast.
Although I love watching NBC news, this interview may be too heart breaking for me. Brian, I don't know how you deal with all of the sadness you see first hand. God Bless you!
I appreciate Brian Williams as a journalist and there is no doubt that the events in Tucson were horrific. My heart goes out to the victims. However, the interview with Suzie Hileman left me cold. She was enamored with the sound of her own voice, her over the top gestures were hard to watch. I may be cynical but just how many times did Ms. Hileman practice her interview responses prior to Brian's interview? Her behavior rang false as if she was enjoying the attention (though no doubt regretting the "mother" of all bad choices, taking that child to a political meet and greet.) When she reiterated "stay with me" to the child over and over while being cavalier about her own loss of blood it seemed self-congratulatory. Ms. Hileman you could never have imagined the tragedy which took the life of that little girl, it is NOT your fault. But please go away quietly and grieve privately. What some might consider "good journalism" I found to be the inflated histrionics of a woman who should just be happy she survived.
Isn't it interesting. New hope. At the very time the nation is in such economic turmoil, and as everyone is being deceived with the "truth" being created or distorted by political parties and purchased with money, we are now discovering thru the "Tucson Tragedy" that it will be our "God given humanity" paving the way to that elusive peace, kindness, and civility for which we have been longing.
Good Evening Mr.Williams, a fine broadcast from Tucson this evening. It was heartwrenching to hear from Suzi Hileman, the neighbor who took Christina Taylor Green to see Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. It just brings tears.
First of all the report by Kristan Welker and Janet Shamlian about the recovery of Gabrielle Giffords and her leaving the hospital today for a rehabilitation hospital in Houston.
In Kristan Welker's report in was heartwarming to see people lining the streets waving and sending warm wishes to Gabrielle Giffords as she was being brought by ambulance to the airport. It is truly incredible the progress Giffords has made in a short amount of time and she is really strong. Loved by many people it was wonderful to hear and see people speaking about her fondly and praying for her full recovery.
In Janet Shamlian's report from Houston where Giffords will be at Memorial Hospital in rehabilitation it will be a long difficult time recovering, but Gabrielle Giffords has already made great strides so one hopes she continues to improve each day. She is up for the challenge. Thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
Your interview with Suzi Hileman, the neighbor who brought Christina Taylor Green to see Congresswoman Giffords was heartwrenching. It brought tears hearing her speak about Christina and how she was telling her not to leave her. A wonderful little girl with so much promise it is simply tragic and not fair to have lost her. Listening to Suzi speak about the people trying to help Christina and her showed how many heroes there were that day as she stated. So heartbreaking. Ones thoughts and prayers are with her and all the victims of this terrible tragedy.
On a weather note the extremely low temperatures in Minnesota really makes one shiver! BRRRRRRRRRRR!! It is amazing the amount of snowfall in the New England States and it is still only January.
Sad to learn of the oldest Medal of Honor recipient Barney F. Hajiro passing away at 94yrs old. A true hero of World War II. We salute him proudly.
The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Cowan was especially heartwarming. All the people in Tucson helping so many others after this terrible tragedy. The man playing the violin, the woman fixing up the memorial site along with so many others was extremely moving. The wife who lost her husband in the tragedy praying for all the other victims, the cashier saying how people are reaching out to residents in the area, the food bank receiving large donations. It is truly touching. Many kind hearted people in the world. Much healing to be done.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Safe Travels. Peace to You and to All!
Be Well Everyone.
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

We watched Gabby's travel from Arizona to Texas and the out pouring of support from people. She is a miracle and we could never know why. Mrs. Hileman will never forget Christina's eyes as she was the last person with her before she died. God doesn't give us the answers but He has a plan. Cherish the ones you love as they are a gift for only a time.
To my fellow nightly news blog family and you to Brian I will not comment on the weather back east. I love you guys to much and hope the weather gets better.
Glad to see Obama hard at work and I remember his plan which he layed out with the example of the four legged stool. So far it's looking good and he's doing pretty much what he said he would do. Now I know why the Law Makers fight each other for a chairmanship position. As Banks, Corporations and Health Insurance companies are pouring millions in the pocket of the chairmen for support against the Obama policies. Norm Coleman was right to fight all the way to court for his seat, he was making millions and didn't want to give that up. I always wondered how a candidate who won an election quickly became a millionaire when the salaries aren't anywhere need a million dollars. All a Law Makers has to do is come out lie to voters and set back for 2 or 4 years and collect bribe money. Senator Scott Brown wont have to drive that old truck anymore he can now buy a fleet of trucks for everyday of the week. Mitch McConnelll is the best he told his voters he was going to work on getting a Republican President in office so the two years he's be busy doing that. Rand Paul is a terrorist dream come true as he want to cut 500 billion dollars from the Defence Budget leaving the door open for any old/new enemy. Paul also sees cutting Social Security/Medicaid but his Tea Party seniors might be exempted.
Jackie- I will comment -- it sucks! I too hope it gets better before I have to take out a loan to pay my gas heating bill!
Take care all and bundle up-

Uh yeah. It's -2 degrees here right now and someone should go shovel the driveway. I could do without this weather.
Brian, way to make me cry! The interview with Suzi Hileman was heart-wrenching. As a mom of two little girls, I think these things are magnified even more. It's so scary to think about how our lives can be changed in an instant by violence. You never know when or where. It makes me want to wrap my kids in bubble wrap and never leave the house. - Unfortunately, we can't live like that.
Here's hoping everyone has a good and SAFE weekend. I'll be trying to stay warm.
Yet again, Brian Williams has stepped into the role of on-air corporate pitchman for an NBC advertiser. Last Monday, he shilled for Starbucks (for the second time in two weeks). A few weeks earlier, he was singing the praises of Frito-Lay. Before that, it was Kraft, Heinz, Microsoft, Boniva, United Airlines, McDonald's and a host of other products. And on Thursday, it was Walmart. Brian excitedly told us that Walmart "...promised today to cut prices on fresh fruits and vegetables and to reduce fats, sugar, salt (and) eliminate trans-fats in some of its own store brands by the year 2015." Praising Walmart for ending the practice of selling unhealthy food is like praising someone because he's stopped beating his dog. It's great that the bad activity has stopped, but where was the media coverage while the bad activity was still going on? I have never seen Nightly News do a single story about the high prices, lack of fresh food choices or the elevated fat, sugar and sodium content in foods sold at Walmart. But Brian is thrilled to tell us all about their great new healthy food policy.
If Brian wants to do a story on Walmart, why doesn't he investigate why Walmart sold Jared Loughner the bullets he used to shoot Gabrielle Giffords and 18 others in Tucson on Jan. 8? Kmart agreed to stop selling bullets ten years ago, partly as a result of Michael Moore's efforts (as documented in his movie "Bowling For Columbine"). Why hasn't Walmart done the same? I think that's a much more important story than the fact that they will be reducing fat and sodium in their foods. Of course, Nightly News will never do a story about Walmart selling ammo because Brian and his producers are too concerned about offending one of NBC's biggest advertisers.
Interestingly, on the Jan. 14 broadcast, Mike Taibbi reported that Jared Loughner had purchased his bullets at a Walgreens, not at a Walmart. At the time, I assumed that this was just one of the many factual errors that occurs regularly on Nightly News. But now I'm beginning to think that Taibbi and his producers conspired to intentionally mislead the viewers in order to protect Walmart from negative publicity. This is how things work at Nightly News. Regular advertisers get protected. Take GlaxoSmithKline, for example. They are one of Nightly News's biggest advertisers. On Monday, Glaxo announced that it was setting aside $3.4 billion to settle new claims made against its diabetes drug Avandia (this is in addition to the $2.36 billion charge they took last summer to settle some of the existing Avandia lawsuits). The $3.4 billion they set aside essentially wipes out their fourth quarter profits. This is a jaw-dropping revelation--a pharmaceutical company wiping out a quarter's worth of profits. It ran on page one of the New York Times's Tuesday business section. But Nightly News didn't report this story. It is the policy of Brian Williams and his producers to protect companies like Glaxo and Walmart from negative publicity whenever possible.
By the way, whoever wrote today's Daily Nightly blog entry should check their facts. In addition to the six who were killed, there were 13 people injured in Tucson on Jan. 8, not "a dozen". Accuracy is important in news. A list of the injured can be found at:
Also, there's a hyphen in Christina-Taylor Green's name. Just in case anyone at Nightly News cares.
After Dan Rather rode off into the sunset, I've watched NBC News — Tom Brokaw, then Brian Williams. They just seemed to do a consistently better job of presenting the news. But Brian has become increasingly a sycophant. His fawning interviews with Bruce Springsteen were absolute fluff and should've been on Entertainment Tonight, not a program purporting to be news. So much of what is foisted off as news on the evening networks is little more than show biz fluff and promos for other shows/specials. The program Thursday evening, where he devoted a major portion to fawning over Bush pere and his Gulf War cohorts, was an absolute waste of time. Boresville. And they're going to do an NBC special on it? Gimme a break. Probably all of three people will watch it. The interview with Suzi Hileman just shouldn't have been there. I'm sure Mrs. Hileman is grieving over her inadvertent role in the young girl's death, but that's no reason to turn it into showbiz, and it certainly shouldn't have been a major part of a news show. It's little wonder people are deserting network news in droves, when anchors such as Brian Williams, who supposedly have news journalism cred, spend their time fawning over rock stars, corporate moguls, and others of the high and mighty. My god, there are other, more important things going on in the world than Bruce Springsteen's incoherent ramblings.
If the 'tragedy in Tuscon' had taken place in Yuma, or Phoenix, what catchy phrase would you sell it with? I am tired of being told that our nation is grieving or in mourning...my friends and co-workers agree. We have compassion for the victims and their families, and we are saddened by the violence and evil in the world, but please, don't keep shoving this down our throats. We want news, not a sales job. If you want to talk about tragedy, why aren't you reporting more on the atrocities of Dr. (butcher) Kermit Gosnell? Afraid that tiny baby feet in a jar and fetal body parts in the freezer won't sell? Oh, that's right, it's not pc to talk about abortion. This is way beyond abortion, it is mass murder, and the American people should hear about it.
The Jolly Ranchers haven't gained any ground off it yet (no new gun laws) and are still trying to herd "we the cattle" in the direction they deem fit?

I beg to differ!
"Moving on" does not mean to be made a fool of.

I have been a part of many Breast Cancer fundraisers over the last 18 years. Over the past 10, I have done Race for the Cure (Susan G. Komen) however, finding out today what they are doing to stop others from using the words "cure" or "race" or even _— for a cure is ABSURD and RIDICULOUS and I will no longer have anything to do with them. I think it's disgusting that they used even a dime of fund-raising money to stop people from using a portion of that line. Yes RACE FOR THE CURE is theirs but they've trademarked over 175 other "for the's" so that no one else would be able to use it. RIDICULOUS when they aren't using it! Additionally, this woman wants to use Mush for a cure and they threaten to sue her - SERIOUSLY. They're disgusting! They should be using that $550,000 to find a cure instead of being petty. The VP said today that Race for The Cure is associated with Breast Cancer and the Komen name. NOOO - it's associated with Breast Cancer and finding a cure - it's what we're ALL supposed to want. RACE for the cure is associated with Komen. Get it straight and stop being so ridiculous. Idiots. I will never support them again. I'm just disgusted!
Absurd! Ridiculous! Two challenging words. Seems to me they INVITE a challenge! Time will tell!
YES! Time!
