Recognizing the good on this holiday weekend

Kate Snow reports: Hello from Rockefeller Center on this Christmas Day! There wasn't much traffic coming into Manhattan today, but the tourists are still crowding in to see 30 Rock tree in all its glory.

We have some news to tell you about tonight – particularly if you're planning to travel by air today or tomorrow.

What I'd like to focus on in this space are the wonderful stories we so often close with on our broadcast. We call them  our "Making a Difference" reports, and now, we've gathered them all in one place. On this day that calls for peace and goodwill toward others, it seems appropriate that we should recognize all the good that exists in this world.

Lester Holt will be back with you tomorrow and I'll see you again on New Year's Eve.

Making a difference is the highlight of Nightly News! Despite all the doom and gloom, there are people out there who are real hreoes in helping others in need. If our entire population were engaged in helping the needy in times of crises, what a happier country this would be. These acts of humility do not occur just during the Christmas season, but all year long. NBC NEWS is the only evening news cast that emphasises these important stories, and will hopefully carryon this tradition for years to come. Helping others is a mainstay of our nation, and NBC is tops in relating these events to the American people. Keep up the great work guys and gals. Four stars to Brian Williams, and to the entire staff of NBC Nightly News! Happy holidays and a Happy New Year!!

It's Sunday and yes the Giants and Lakers lost so you know I'm in recover mood. What a few days for a holiday. Hefner is getting married again, Wikileak Chief is writing a book, Coburn just got the memor Obama has complete cooperation with helps with jobs from the Billionaires, Banks are settling in as staff aides in Republican/Tea Party offices in DC, rumors about the Paliins to keep them in the media are flying more then snow flakes, Obama is working and vacationing, both President Bush's helped Obama get the Start Bill and now even Tea Party members learned to start a donation website to get money saying they are thinking about running for office. Now beleve it or not it's a get career choice they days for the unemployed as it works for Sarah, Newt, Huckabee and Mitt.

Foreign Press exposes the way the Obama team stepped in to save for now the Bush Administration from being charged with War Crimes committed. It's holding off because it seems the Spain Government respects Obama but the Spain Court will bring the guilty to Justice. Spain saw the US Government would never bring the Bush Administration to Justice in the US as the courts are lined with puppets all the way to the US Supreme Court. At lease former Justice Stevens admitted some of the Justices vote political not Judicial. Word from South Carolina is Mark Sanford just might run for office that's a sweet story. Governor McDonnell of Virginia who is looking ahead to run for either President or a Federal seat is now getting to work by increasing College cost by 24 per cent. The Virginia AG Ken is busy working with the Tea Party to get the vote for Governor as the State citizens their own their own. Banks have a friend with the AG as homes foreclosed on are even those who were up to date paying their mortgages.

The new year should prove to be interesting as the games begin. Thank goodness Obama is smart enough to keep his eye on helping the American people or we'd be hosed.

have a great day and stay warm and out of the snow

George W. Bush will be vindicated in The Middle East. My husband gave me "DECISION POINTS'

by GWB for Christmas, and I heard through the grapevine it's the most riveting book out

there. Your Blogg is interesting, though too harsh on former President George Bush. I

suppose you either love him or hate him; but either way, he is the best president in modern

history because he changed the world with the ouster of Saddam. Phyllis Kunz

Hi Phyllis I respect your admiration for George W. Bush but with a daughter that served in both Iraq and Afghanistan I learned the truth and lies don't work for me. I was one of the Military family members who got pictures of the torture victims in Abrab Gharb before it came public so sorry. I have a friend who has George W. Bush's book and it's his story which is his right. The dead can't tell their story or even write a book. I did feel bad for Bush with his trama as a 14 year old when his Mom had him hold her dead fetus in a jar, any kid would be messed up with that experience. But as much as many excuse the War Crimes I thought "I give you an up dated facts on the topic. Obama is doing what was done for Nixon when he was about to be Impeachment, and that's why Daddy Bush and even GW are so willing to support Obama during his administration.

As a result of these revelations, it is clear that the US government — under Bush and Obama — has been largely successful in preventing the prosecution of anyone involved in the horrendous human rights abuses initiated in the “War on Terror,” not just abroad, but also in the US. In the last year, fulfilling his “belief that we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards,” which he expressed in January 2009, the week before he took office, President Obama has presided over the whitewash of a damning internal Justice Department report into John Yoo and Jay S. Bybee (who wrote and approved the notorious “torture memos” of August 2002, which attempted to redefine torture, so that it could be used by the CIA), and has cynically resorted to manipulating the little known and little used “state secrets” privilege to prevent the merest whisper of evidence regarding the torture of foreign prisoners to be discussed in a US court.

The World Leaders know the Bush Administration would never be tried in the US for their War Crimes. But things might change when Obama is not longer in office as he is respected and time might not be on Bush and Cheney's side. Many War Criminals have come to Justice long after they left office due to politicial pressure. What's nice is in the end we all have to answer for our sins and politcs and friends can't save us from that.

Good morning, Jackie I respect what you have to say but you and I differ. The truth will come out.

I do not see Pres. Obama as an effective leader because he is always apologizing for America which

offends many of us and no doubt pleases the World Leader who see this as a weakness and the

decline of The United States. I do not think Obama will have a second term. I miss

George Bush and so do many others as witnessed by the billboards across our country. AMERICA

still needs this great man who would never grovel before other leaders. Prince Charles

once wanted Bush to take the lead and it still may happen. I hope so. Best Phyllis

Bush's book has sold 2 million copies in one month

Bill Clinton's book hasn't sold that many in six years.

"I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there"

Good Evening Mr.Holt, A fine broadcast this evening as always! Keep Extra Safe and Warm in the terrible winter storm happening in New York and all over New England. Certainly dangerous winter weather with high snowfall predicted with high gusts of wind. Stay Safe!

Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Alexander from La Guardia which told of icy roadways and thousands of cancelled flights all over the Northeast. Hearing about 50mph winds and snowfall predicted at around a foot or more in places one can understand why so many flights are cancelled. It is horrible timing with so many people trying to make it home during the holidays and one hopes they can get home soon and as stated that by Tuesday the weather will improve although much cleanup will need to be done. So many States affected by this winter storm from Southeast all the way up to New England.

Historic snowfall this Christmas Day in many Southern States. Giving a surprising white Christmas to many people.

Seeing Mr.Seidel reporting from Natick,Mass. with all the blowing snow and blizzard conditions showed how this storm is going to intensify over the next hours. Hopefully, things will improve soon.

On another note the report by Mr.Fletcher about the tour bus in Egypt that hit a truck and caused so many to be injured and killed was awful. It appears the road was barely tolerable which was part of the cause of the accident. Ones thoughts and prayers go out to all the tourists who were lost.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Mott about Goodwill and how it is helping people find jobs was very hopeful and nice. So many people have been able to find training and jobs because of Goodwill and those featured in the piece have brighter and better futures. Goodwill has certainly changed their lives for the better.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Kate Snow did a great job on Christmas Day evening for the broadcast! Please Stay Extra Safe and Warm in all the wintry weather. Peace to You and to All!

                    Be Safe and Warm Everyone!

Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Looking forward to your report on the Serengeti on the Today Show on Monday!

Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

Lisa beat me to alerting you all to tomorrow's Richard Engel report on the Serengeti airing on Today. Actually he is reporting on a road being built across the Serengeti which cuts right across the migration route the wildebeeste, zebra and gazelles take following the rains and thus the green grass. The animals are skittish about crossing roads, so at the very least this poses a serious problem for the migration. We'll see what Richard has to say tomorrow. I've been there several times -- it is probably my favorite place on earth outside of home, so this is all heartwrenching for me.

Another alert: this one to an article in today's NY Times focusing on a part of the BP oil spill that has not been talked about enough -- 11 men died and many others were badly injured. It is excellent. At nytimes.com look for "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hours".

Snow blowing horizontally here. Can't even tell how much has fallen as some areas are blown clean and other areas drifted deep -- but it's A LOT!

                      Take care all-

                      Celine
