Tonight I've invited Tom Brokaw to join us for a few minutes -- we'll take a look back at what this week taught us. The fallout from the election continues -- in fact, we're still waiting for results in several big races. The President is overseas, Speaker Pelosi says she still wants to lead the Democrats, and both sides will slug it out on the Sunday talk shows. I think I'll be watching football all weekend. For now, I'm playing Aretha Franklin's Greatest Hits on my iPod at my desk. We hope you can join us tonight. Please have a good weekend.

Great, my absolutely two favorite anchormen of all time. I love Tom Brokaw, but there definitely was only one person who could take his place and NBC got the right one. I'm also interested in the recap of the week. I'm a Nevadan and was thrilled beyond expression that Senator Harry Reid won reelection. It was supposed to be an extremely close race, but apparently Nevada isn't as gullible as some people might think. We are in a great deal of trouble and ousting Reid with John Ensign not being very far behind would have been even more detrimental to our state. Good job to you and your team on election night.
hi Brain i ve been watching you since long you are the best anchormen on earth .Have a wonderful weekend and best wishes from iSTANBUL/TURKEY
What a week and we haven't seen nothing yet. To start things off it seems the Corporations now want what they paid for and that's more propaganda reporters. Can't blame them. Keith is first and other honest fair host will be next. Brian we've got your back and you are as I've often told you the only honest, fair/balanced reporter today. Don't change and learn from others don't even donate to a campaign and who knows next you might not be able to cast a vote.
Time for weekend sports and let the circus of politics wait until Monday. One thing I found to be true, history will repeat itself if you didn't learn and it's happening now
Have a great weekend all and stay safe.
Thanks to Janet Shamlian for the story on the anniversary of the Ft. Hood murders. A reminder of the sacrifice that our troops made at home and the need to not let our guard down, even in our own country.
Brian
There are several versions of “Aretha Franklin’s Greatest Hits” since she’s been in the business for quite some time, I hope the version you have includes “ I Say A Little Prayer”. With all due “respect” to Ms. Warwick, I think Aretha does it just a bit better. BTW if you want to listen to some more “Classic Old School” then you’ve got to check out Dionne’s “Anyone Who Had a Heart”, the arrangement is so dramatic, plus the saxophone solo . . . Burt Bacharach’s arrangement is total perfection. Back in the early 60’s when it was recorded, Burt Bacharach’s compositions for her music have a dramatic sound to them, something these younger musicians of today are not even close to capturing.
The same holds true for the hits of Little Anthony & The Imperials. Better stop now before I give you a one hundred plus list of listening material !
Also the “Making A Difference” story this evening was quite interesting. Always nice to see a “what are they doing now” story.
Have a great weekend.
Brian, More power to Nancy Pelosi. Sexism still a problem in politics, and I wish her continued
success. The political commentary by Tom Brokaw was so interesting. One of campaigns Keith
contributed to was Jack Conway in Kentucky. All eyes are on the Breeder's Cup horse race
at Churchill Downs this weekend. Have a nice weekend. Phyllis
Good evening, Brian!
Happy to join you tonight after a long first day at my new job! After searching for a job for so long (honestly, on and off about two years now) I finally landed one, and I know how lucky I am to have it in this economy! It was wonderful to see Tom Brokaw sitting in with you tonight. Last night's broadcast was excellent and very moving with the report on the passing of "Sparky", and the excellent Making A Difference report on the milestone made with Paul Newman's "Newman's Own". He would be so happy to hear how much his small idea has helped so many. He'll always be remembered for not only his incredible acting, but for being such a kind, generous person.
It's hard to believe it's already been a year since the shooting at Fort Hood. I'll never forget it. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those lost and effected by the shooting.
Tonight's Making A Difference report from Ron Allen was absolutely fantastic! Such an excellent story, and report from Ron. My thanks to Ron for his reporting! A great story to send us off for the weekend.
I want to share something that I just saw on our local news while writing this post. One of our local news anchors has three dogs with the names Russert, Brinkley and Jennings. I think that is the coolest thing ever, and I wanted to share it here. One of these days I may just have to name my own dog Williams. As a dog lover, I'm guessing it'd be okay! Thanks for the broadcast! I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A fine broadcast this Friday evening. It has been quite an eventful week and Mr.Brokaw's analysis was true. A prolonged fight to help solve a mulititude of issues and hopefully some progress will be made in the future. Mr.Brokaw always does an excellent job!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report Mr.Todd on the jobs report which was a little enncouraging even though the unemployment rate remains high. The private sector has shown some growth, but many people are skeptical about the numbers. Time will tell and hopefully things will improve more and more.
The report by Janet Shamlian from Fort Hood with a memorial for those who were lost in the shooting a year ago today was heartwrenching, Very emotional for the families as they gathered to remember their loved ones. Many brave heroes on that day and ones thoughts and prayers go out to all the families who lost loved ones.
Terrible to see the devastation in Haiti caused by Hurricane Tomas where the flood waters are rushing through one of the areas. Those people have endured so much already and one hopes no more disasters occur in the areas. Thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti.
Very nice "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Allen about the reunion of men and women who first signed up for the Peace Corps. They did wonderful work in helping people in so many different countries and it was great to hear them speak about how excited they were to join the Peace Corps. A great tradition was begun with those people. Nice piece!
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy alot of good football games! Peace to You and to All!
Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!
XOXO
Lisa
Mr. Williams,
Some comments on Tom Brokaw's comments and my feeling that the Republicans do not need to do anything for me:
First, eight years ago when a was a GM engineer (I retired and am now an elementary school substitute teacher) I made around $90,000 a year. I did not consider myself rich, but I lived a comfortable life. Now, I make two-thirds of that and am still doing okay--I even bought a new Chevy SUV this year. I DO consider someone making $250,000 "rich." Perhaps you and Mr. Brokaw make more and are worried about your taxes, or have no clue about what most Americans, who have jobs, are paid.
Second, I (an independent, non-tea party, progressive) DO support President Obama and I dislike that fact that Mr. Brokaw lumped me in with "most" Americans. I DO NOT support politicians whose party brought us two undeclared and unnecessary wars, an economic disaster in the housing and financial markets and a record breaking deficit. I AM very disappointed, however, that we are still fighting a war in Afghanistan.
Third, I AM okay with the health care changes. I AM NOT okay with the for-profit medical and medical insurance industry and their reach into the halls of Congress.
Fourth, I think the housing market inflated the values of homes before the "bust." The gullibility and greed of the lenders and the buyers are their own faults, but were made possible by the lack of regulation.
Beside the Comedy Channel (yes, my wife and I traveled from Michigan to DC to attend Jon Stewart's rally), your news show is the only one I care to watch. Perhaps you and Mr. Brokaw need to air a segment on those of us who DO NOT need to Representative Boehner and most of the news media speaking for us.
Cheers,
Brian I guess you are right, it has been a busy week for both of us. You with your work and I don't know how you stay awake when you travel and the election coverage that you did. I am glad that Chuck Schumer got reelected and now he can help by going to Washington and see about getting my army reserve retirement thing going.
Other then that I will start to think about another chapter in my continuing comic "Aquafantasies!" You have a safe weekend and cheer the Bills on for Tim, they haven't won yet!
Skip
While I almost always love to hear what Tom Brokaw as to say. I have to say, families making over 250k are rich. That is five times the salary that my husband and I make together. I understand the need for unity and teambuilding, but that is my reality and I fully appreciate the President calling it like it is.
Hi Brian-
A previous comment left by a Mr Bill Christen says it all for me.
But I'd like to add, though my wife and I watch the NBC network and the Nightly News, that I am disappointed that television news in general has become so gutless. I know you have corporate owners- and there is this "bottom line" mentality, but I can't see why such large social issues like healthcare are covered so minimally.
I remember a time where there was a "CBS Reports, and a NBC "White Paper" that devoted a hour of prime time television to the Viet Nam war or migrant farm workers- and I expect when I watched such programming- you, Brian were not born yet!
It's my contention that we as a nation are not as informed as we think we are, so are decision making is flawed. Just as our food diet has become at best questionable, and at it's worst killing us with obesity and chemicals, our news media is just plain not doing it's job.
Dear Brian,
To honor our soldiers on Veteran's Day, please YouTube "Kings Highway We Are Not Alone". It is a tribute made by a Mater Dei Graduate. Thank you. Pat
Brian: After a hectic week of the mid-term elections, there is nothing better than to relax and watch college football. As you said, listening to a great musical artist does sooth the soul. Whenever I feel washed out, I listen to my favorite musical artists.
We still are waiting for the election results from different areas of the country. I hope the waiting isn't pervading your thoughts. No problem, you have sports and music to get your mind off last week's helter skelter. Have a great weekend, and I'll catch you on the broadcast Monday night.
Well I guess Mr. Brokaw didn't get the GOP memo as Senator Graham is suggesting that Obama illegally invade Iran and stop talks with China. If it sounds like 2001 your right. With the GOP and Tea Party in charge they will try to bring back the Bush/Cheney policies. As millions of Americans are asking for jobs the Law Makers are fighting each other for power. All this and Obama is overseas bringing jobs to America. The GOP love Nancy Pelosi as she made the deal with the Devil, when she quickly said Impeachment was off the table for the Treason committed by Bush/Cheney. With GW talking about his book, he's talking himself in to War Crimes charges as he admits the War Crimes he committed.
I read the oops the NBC executives did by letting Olbermann go. Yes NBC has rules and MSNBC has rules. Keith was punished under NBC. Sometimes mistake happen but it take a man/woman to admit their error. The viewers of MSNBC have seen and heard things and actions that sound more like Fox Fake News. Once a person can't donate to their elected official next they will be told they can't vote or told who the Corporations wants them to vote for. The lastest costly mistake made by NBC Executives was Conan and it's clear why GE had to sell NBC and MSNBC to Comcast. When the people at the top and those running the money don't know what their doing, the next step is sale. Comcast Executives have admitted their deeply involved with the Republican politics and candidates and will be the next Fox Fake News. Soon we wont have a station that's not controlled by politics and have to go elsewhere for the fair/balanced news. I always wondered why the bio of news people have so many stations they worked at.
Best games of the Day Ill vs Michigan and Neb vs Iowa those two games with make your hair turn gray.
Have a great evening all
hola, brian, an eye-opening article on wheat production and the nasty rust that is spreading to the wheat fields across the globe. i sure hope that the scientists working on a solution can find one quickly. the global warming is having some nasty consequences on the food production for the poor nations. and the futures markets are not helping the situation. i hope europe puts some controls in effect, there. feeding the people of the planet is such a critical priority. it's the first rule of economics, you have to be able to feed yourself, as a nation. global warming is going to impact the water levels in the rivers as well, the article mentions the expected impact on the nile river. i hope those areas in canada and siberia open up for wheat farming since new farms will be needed to offset the expected decrease in crops. it's all a little scary. we are spoiled in america. this is definitely a situation that needs to be well-managed for all possible scenarios. i hope enough resources are being dedicated to that goal. best, anna martina
Mr. Williams should learn what 'beg the question' means. it doesn't mean what he thinks it does. It is an obscure term from the field of logic where one states a proposition at the front of an argument and then uses as proof a mere restatement of the proposition. As in "George is stupid because he is dumb". Or 'Sarah is beautiful because she is a knockout". What he should say is "such and such prompts the question" not "begs the question. " If you don't believe me check the Safire archives.
There's a whole website about this. Just search for the term 'beg the question'.
When I was with General Electric a friend from high school talked me into going to Calif.
Mrs. Erby, manager of personnel, asked me "What prompted you to leave Kentucky for Calif. Anyway,
I find it interesting about beg the question and what prompts you, etc. To me it seems like
nitpicking and begs the question: Who cares?
Please bring back Keith Olbermann!!!! We need him to speak the truth especially before the 2012 campaigns start getting hot and heavy with lies from Fox and other sources. Everyone knows Keith is a liberal, but he uses video, transripts, and tells the truth whether people like it or not. God help MSNBC and NBC if they try to can him for this slight misstep. I guarantee their ratings will dive and rightly so. Thanks!
I just read that Keith Olbermann will be back Tuesday!!! WHICH is good!!!
