The Day After (and about last night...)

We ended up going nine hours on the air last night. While I could not watch any other coverage, I don't see how our team could be equaled: Just think of the candlepower I had at the desk with me: Mark Whitaker, Andrea Mitchell, David Gregory, Savannah Guthrie and Tom Brokaw. Everyone worked heroic hours, everyone contributed equally. Chuck Todd was among the stars of the evening, as he analyzed wave after wave of numbers. Andrea Mitchell stayed up all night, Savannah got on a train three hours after we got off the air, went to Washington, and helped lead the questioning at the White House today during the President's news conference. Our people are wiped--and yet our team members never falter, and performed today at the same consistent level. I'm so proud to know them and to be able to work with them. Tonight we'll examine the new day in politics, and what last night's result will mean. We hope you can join us.

Brian: You guys did a magnificent job on election night. As you said, the team was beat, but performed like the pros they are. As I mentioned before, you were surrounded by the best election team of all the other major networks. As expected, the Republicans swept the House and fell a little short of control of the Senate. Democrats and Republicans now must work together to cut spending and lower the deficit. Bipartisanship is the key that will open the door to seek rational solutions. It will be interesting to see how this party shift will inprove our state of affairs. The president must work with the Republicans to turn our ship of state around and head for the right port of improvement to make this nation what it once was. I'll catch you on tonight's broadcast.

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A great broadcast this evening. You and the whole NBC News team did a fantastic job last evening covering the election returns. You and the whole team are the best and did excellent coverage! Great Job! And I hope all of you are able to get some much needed rest tonight!

Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Todd on the message that was sent by voters and President Obama accepted responsibilty and will work harder to focus on jobsand the economy. Hopefully, both parties will be able to work together on the issues to find solutions. Having the Republicans controlling the House and the Democrats controlling the Senate the government is split which will really force the partties to come together and work hard on issues. Time will tell. One hopes for real progress.

On another nore the report by Mr.Potter from Haiti on the possible hurricane coming to Haiti showed how awful the devsstation could be since most people are living in tents with nowhere else to go. The relief workers are doing all they can to make sure people are prepared, but it is so difficult. Ones thoughts and prayers are with all the people of Haiti.

The airlines talking about passengers tagging their own luggage seems excessive. One wonders if it would really speed up the check-in process.

The piece by Rehama Ellis on the four voters and their reaction to last evenings results was interesting. One hopes the parties can work together.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Get some much needed sleep tonight! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackei,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!

    Be Wel Always!

Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!

Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

    XOXO

        Good evening, Brian!

Excellent job last night with the election coverage! (You know you read the Daily Nightly too often when you can guess what the title of the blog will be...I knew there'd be an "about last night" in there somewhere!) I was SO excited to watch all of you cover the election, and to just see the excitement on your faces doing it all! I must admit that after a long weekend (Stewart/Colbert rally in DC, hiking) I could not keep myself awake for the entire coverage until 3am like I could for the '08 election, but I was there in spirit applauding your work! I must also add that Tom Brokaw is looking wonderful at his age, and I take great comfort in seeing that. It was great to have him on with you all last night! A big thank you for the work all of you did! Also, the set for the election coverage is beautiful! The view of the beautiful 30 Rockefeller Plaza at night in New York City with the American flags waving on was a little distracting tonight, but in a very good way! Kudos to the set designer.

        Have a good night!

          Brian,

Your coverage was not carried on local NBC, so I missed out mostly. I am looking forward to the

interview with former President George W. Bush and want to read his book as well.

Two thoughts on last nights election results. BECAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR AND FOOL ME ONCE SHAME ON YOU, FOOL ME TWICE SHAME ON ME. Americans watched our country change with corruption and lies for 8 years as we were on the cliff and last night voters said they wanted the same policies back and even destroying the US Constitution. If Americans would take a minute to read the US Constitution they would realize Republicans/Tea Party can't repeal the Health Care Bill. Remember many tried to do the same with the Social Security Act. But sometimes people have to hit rock bottom before they wake up. For those Americans who dislike the Health Care Bill well in two years they just might need that Bill. Corporations poured millions in for candidates and now it's time to pay back. Many use Reagan as the best President in history but forget his record and how his Reagannomics help bring the Recession.

I was glad at lease Californians learned from the prior mistake and now Moon Beam can get to work on repairing the damage. Boxer has her work cut out too as history will again repeat itself. I love American History and how FDR got the US out of the Great Depression. Not every State recovered quickly but those who worked with FDR succeeded and others it took longer. Banks and Corporations will look for paid law makers to work for them, other wing nut candidates will make as much money as possible in their one term in office. As States continue to suffer, citizens will again write Obama for help. Yes vote in a candidate who does nothing but give lip service and run to the President for help.

I feel bad for President Bush as he should learn how to shut his mouth. The TARP money was given not to save the Banks but used for bonuses as we learned from the Bank CEO's. Bush didn't get the memo that the truth was publicly told by Chase CEO. Bailout money was used by Banks in the candidates campaign donations during this election. Bush hasn't been told about the Robo signers, Burger King kids hired by Banks, fraud committed by Banks and now we're learning many Banks don't even hold the deeds to the homes their collecting payments on or the one's their foreclosing on. Bush might want to be careful as now even the United Nations has the proof of War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity that Bush/Cheney did. It's been said you get back 7 times what you give out and Bush/Cheney are in trouble with those pay backs.

President Obama should sit back and get those pens ready for the vetos. We will see nothing done by Law Makers as the Republicans and Tea Party memebers fight for control.

            Have a great day all

              Brian-

Nice job last night and applause for all your gang. Excellent analysts all.

I agree with Cary that the waving American flags were distracting, but respectfully disagree that it was in a nice way. I felt particularly bad for Tom Brokaw who always had flags whipped by what appeared to be tropical force winds behind him. Not pleasant and VERY distracting.

Cary-- Were you at the Rally to Restore Sanity? I was too! Fun and CROWDED! Weren't the signs great?!! When Jon Stewart said tonight he was at a "sign convention" he was only half joking! I wondered if anyone else from the Daily Nightly went. Hope you got to the mall. I read tons of people got stuck in the overcrowded Metro and never made it.

              Take care all-

              Celine

Hey! I knew that wouldn't come out right. I wasn't trying to say that the flags were distracting, but that the beauty of all of it together was distracting. I love the set! :) And yes, we made it to the rally! We didn't hear or see anything but the signs and all of the people, but it was amazing to be there! What a crowd! The signs were hilarious, and the metro...oh...my...goodness! Tell me about it! It was a fantastic day nonetheless with fantastic company! :)

Great Job on election night by all. I got back 2 weeks ago from visiting the Newseum & Tim Russert's office display at the Newseum & also his grave @ Rock Creek Cemetery & left him some ice cold Rolling Rocks. Tim was the backbone of the NBC news division in DC. I am sure he was watching over all the staff on election night. We sure miss Tim's political knowledge. I just hope America gets it together & the politicians do the right thing For the People. Remember to reach across the aisle no matter what party affiliation do your job w/ honor & dignity.

Greetings, Brian - From a long time ( Huntley - Brinkley era) NBC viewer . You carry on a great tradition of personal integrity, but I wonder if you can comment on whether the bosses at NBC News see anything in the tea leaves in the viewership #s on Election night ? If in fact Fox got 7 million, and CNN was a distant #2 at @2.4 million, what was the NBC # , and how might the content and presentation need to be tweaked to regain your stature ?

Brian, excellent job by your staff on the election coverage. I watched the President's news conference and I was struck by his explanation that "when you're in the White House, you do (feel removed) from the public."

How is it the man who ran by all accounts a brilliant messaging campaign in 2008 is trying to explain his disconnect from voters two years later? Is it the demands of the Presidency? Does it signal that perhaps he might not run for a second term?
