I spent all of yesterday studying -- like I always meant to study for a final.
Tonight we'll do Nightly News from our election studio, to get the hang of the place.
Tomorrow morning, I will wake up and vote (as we always urge everyone to) and then come in to work. At that point, there's little to do to be "ready", except to make sure we're as prepared as we can be. We're going all night tomorrow night: straight from prime time through late night. That means if you live on the East Coast and are a night owl, we'll be on the air. If you live on the West Coast, we'll be live to talk about the big races there.
I have no doubt that we have the best team ever assembled. I'm certain we'll be on the air for more hours than any other broadcast network. Now we wait. Now we vote.
We hope you can join us tonight.

Will everyone in the Journolist media be wearing black tomorrow? bahahahah The Republicans are being so set up to take the blame for New York's crimes against America. Here's to "hoping" they get all of you first before you get them. Let the Cloward and Piven hearings begin!!!
Please everyone, do as Brian is doing: do your homework about the candidates, decide who will be best for America, then go out and VOTE!
And take care-
Celine
Brian, looking through all the photographs from the Jon Stewart gathering Saturday, the thought came that it'll be interesting to see how many conservatives, GOP'ers, Tea-baggers ect who I'm sure also watched some of the rally or the photos all over facebook, begin to realize why hippies from the 70's grew to become such sane intelligent people who can laugh and smile, be reasonable in their political decisions, and pity those who live such self-generated lives of fear....Dudes...life is such a Holy ride...do you really need to carry a gun?
"sane intelligent people"
you mean like the ones running everything now? You're kidding right? You must be......
I watched most of it and the first hour seemed more like an experiment in what can we make these collective clowns do next. I know have em do the wave, sound off with a number, say woot. Then the really lame so called comedy started. Colbert needs to go to the river and see Elvis, he's done.
Hi Dave, couldn't notice your own unhappiness woven into your discourse. Did you read any of the signs toted about by the Sane Intelligent people on the mall? Were you displeased because everyone was having a good time being there...together? Or do you have a dog in the fight to keep everyone scared and willing to squander the national treasures we have left on yet another profitable war?
There is an anti war movement in this country? I know there was when Bush was in office and the left needed to get back in power to bail out their banks and unions but haven't seen much of the little darlings since. Maybe after this election huh?
Brian, we came home about 15 minutes ago and I caught part of the program. I am glad you showed
the bad behavior of the stomper in Kentucky. Our daughter lives in Williamstown, Ky, and ironically,
the first call Rand Paul took in the last debate with Jack Conway was from a man in Williamstown.
I look forward to your coverage of the midterm election. Phyllis
Brian,
Your voice is a comfort regardless of the news: good or bad. You are my Walter Cronkite of the millenium. Katie and Diane are good ladies. Yet, like a fatherly shoulder, your demeanor and comforting voice is soothing amidst the daily trumoil of our lives, like no other. Thank you for being there. Warmest wishes,
Sandra
Good Evening Mr.Williams, A fine Election Eve broadcast this evening. It will certainly be an intense evening of election results from all over the nation and with many having some tight contentious races.
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Savannah Guthrie about the parties bringing out well known party members to drum up support. So much money has been spent on this campaign by all the candidates it is staggering. The results will soon be known as everyone goes to the polls on Tuesday and results come in
The report by Mr.Todd showed how the voters really want to focus on major issues of concern such as the economy, jobs and the future of our nation. The parties needc to learn to work together once the election is over. A difficullt task.
All the eight reporters covering races in eight States showed how many races are extremely tight and highly contentious. This will depend on voter turnout for both parties and it will surely be close in many States.
On another note the report by Mr.Pete Williams about the former detainee at Guantanomo giving vital information on the mail bombs in found on cargo planes and commercial planes was disturbing. It will be interesting to learn more of what he knows as the investigation continues to find who was responsible for the bomb makings found in the toner cartridges.
The piece by Mr.Tibbles from Chicago showing how voters feel about the election and the candidates revealed how many people feel about this election. Enough with the attacks and mudslinging and focus on the issues. One hopes for relief when it is over.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Looking forward to NBC News excellent coverage of the election on Tuesday! Peace to You and to All!
Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!
XOXO
Lisa
Evening, Brian,
Your opening with reporters from around the country at important elections was good and I liked you used pictures of the candidates with the appropriate blue or red background to ID them as a Democrat or Republican. However, and there is always an however, I was wondering about the use of red in the fountain that was YOUR background.
Was the color red behind you coincidence because you have no control over the lighting of the fountain or are you and/or NBC leaning towards the GOP/Tea Party?
Please be neutral in your background color selection.
Hi Guys I'm back home in sunny California. I've made sure my friends, relatives and the kids all voted by mail in ballots. You know how serious I take voting.
Colorado has some of the nicest people and I always enjoy meeting the citizens when visiting Preppie. I made my rounds to all the kids and talked to everyone I met. One thing I found duirng this very long vacation is the Law Makers and reporters are wrong. I see Americans who enjoy talking and just say hi to everyone and of course love talking about themselves, kids and yes topics of today.
Savannah might want to first wait to see if Rep. Boehner wins his seat before announcing his position as Speaker of the House. I notice no one has a poll on how the tan man is doing in his race. What's up with Mitch McConnell? After he made sure the unemployment payments stops and he held it up as millions where left with nothing I don't think he expects the unemployed citizens to rush out and vote for him. Rep. Cantor is another unseen candidate who was affraid to debate. Sarah is to funny as she quit her job, uses people for her legal bills and life style. Now I voted and remember JFK's words ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country. As we go to vote we know many candidates want to destroy the Constitution and every way of life we have. Our founders agreed to disagreed but today it seems the people aren't the concern of the Law Makers. One lady said Obama gave the Banks the 700 billion dollars and caused the recession in 2007/8. I listened respectfully and then asked her if she saw Obama being sworn in office as President in 2009. Enough said.
This report of the once Gitmo prisoner reporting the bomb wasn't uncommon but as most Americans only hear that as the prisoners we tortured and released when back to Al Queada is the propaganda spread in the news. Most to understand other cultures realize respect plays a large part. We lost that in the US but other countries still hold on to that. I was glad to hear the child soldier's case is finished. We hear the words War and those who killed Americans/Soldiers have to be punished. Notice how no one feels that US Leaders who had thousands of innocent people killed and millions displace should not be punished.
I watch Chuck Todd with the polls and it seems many Americans have never been asked on those polls. I don't believe in polls but in the American people's will to make sure our country doesn't get controlled by Corporations. You can't always buy something if it were true millionaires would buy more time on earth and health. What few seem to remember is we have strong intelligent Americans who will stand up when necessary. We can't expect the problems that took 8 years to create to be corrected in 18 months unless you believe in magic and can cast a spell.
Have a great day and remember to vote and tell a friend to do the same
welcome back, jackie, we missed you!
On Friday's Nightly News, an on-screen graphic identified John Brennan as a "U.S. Counterterrorism Adviser". On Sunday's broadcast, Brennan was identified as a "Deputy National Security Advisor". While it's puzzling that Brennan would be identified two different ways in the space of 48 hours, it's inexcusable that the Nightly News producers still use "advisor" and "adviser" interchangeably. When are they going to decide on an official spelling to be used for all Nightly News broadcasts? This lack of regulation is unprofessional and makes the broadcast seem as if it isn't very well thought out.
On Sunday's story about farmers who turn their farms into haunted house theme parks, Mike Taibbi tells us, "But to make a profit in this business, you do have to spend money...to make the shower in this Bates Motel remind you of the big finish in 'Psycho'." As he says this, we see a re-enactment of the "Psycho" shower scene in a haunted farmhouse, followed by the shower scene from the original 1960 movie. There's only one problem. The shower scene in Hitchcock's "Psycho" took place before the halfway point of the film, not at the "finish" as Taibbi claimed. I think Taibbi should re-watch "Psycho" before referencing it again in one of his stories.
On Sunday, Nightly News ran an obituary for Ted Sorensen, John F. Kennedy's speechwriter and confidante. Then they ran it again on Monday. Apparently, the Nightly News producers will run obits on two consecutive nights if they believe that the deceased was an iconic giant of twentieth century America. Fair enough. I guess they must have felt that way about Barbara Billingsley, since she got a two-night obit on Oct. 16 & 17. But what about Tom Bosley? His obit ran only one night (Oct. 19). Was June Cleaver a more influential character than Howard Cunningham? Was her advice more sage? Was she more dear to the hearts of American television viewers? If Barbara Billingsley deserves a two-day obit, then so, too, does Tom Bosley. In the immortal words of Fonzie, "That is so uncool." (I have it on good authority that Ted Sorensen actually wrote those words but refused to take credit for them.)
Brian I thought you would appreciate this quote as it is from John Updike in "S" and those from Kentucky
will appreciate it as well as it relates to Buddha the religion of Rand Paul: fOR BUDDHA and his
followers , woman is the portal of release. She is the c--t . WHICH is a play on my last name
when the politics got ugly with other bloggers. Phyllis
Just remember the same people who used that name against you are the same people feeding you the Aqua Buddha BS.
Oh they're also the same people who will be coming after your 401K soon in the lame duck session of traitors to prop up their base of union protected thugs who want to retire at 44, draw a 100 grand a year and vote communist party for the next 40 years of their miserable life.
man do I have a case of the "rights" or what? bahaha
Did you catch Bush tossing out the first pitch the other night? I don't know if he's honest or not, but man did he take some crap form the traitors with class or what? Gotta admire that.
Dave, I admire former George W. Bush tremendously and he is my favorite president. You are
right he handle the crap from his critics with class. Gotta love him. Phyllis
Brian: Are you ready for the big night? This election will be one of the most important journeys' in American history. I do agree that you have the best team working with you off all the networks. I voted a couple of hours ago and the polling place was empty. Hopefully it was because of the early afternoon hour. I'm sure the crowds will assemble later in the evening. I'll be watching all of the coverage tonight with baited breath. Don't fall asleep during this assignment! Just kidding, I think. I'll catch you on tonight's broadcast.
Brian Williams just commented on Richard Blumenthal's projected win in CT at approximately 9pm on Election Night, saying that most Connecticut voters felt that it was a pick between two evils because Blumenthal was a liar about his military service. I disagree greatly with this comment about Blumenthal being evil. Conversely, Blumenthal has a long-standing record of being a champion of the middle class working families of CT. It is true that he had one lapse of judgment in speaking about his military service, but who among us has never mispoken? Nobody is perfect. Blumenthal has fought for the people of CT for many years, and is by no means an evil because of one singular mistake. As the wife of an Operation Iraqi Freedom Army veteran and myself being a hardworking CT teacher, I am proud that the people of CT have spoken to elect Blumenthal over the wealthy McMahon. I find it sad that McMahon wasted millions of dollars trying to persuade gullible voters to elect her, despite her huge lack of political experience. It's really too bad she wasted all of that money that could have gone to helping the countless CT families who are not as financially fortunate as her. The people of Connecticut have spoken loud and clear, and we definitely do not think that our soon-to-be Senator Blumenthal is at all the lesser of two evils, but instead are enthusiastic about sending Blumenthal to the Hill to represent our best interests as he has done as Attorney General for years.
Brian,
Was it really necessary to make fun of California on national TV? When you all discussed Prop 19 I felt the responses from all the journalists, who I consider to be extremely professional, was completely unprofessional.
California Non-Marijuana Smoker,
Jane
Brian,
You're comment about Democrats's need to smoke marijuana for consolation was denied by the results of these elections was offensive, arrogant and extremely rude. You came off as a pompous caricature of yourself.
Hi Brian,
Iowa lost three Supreme Court judges last night, including Chief Justice Marsha Ternus, when voters said "no" to their retention on the ballot. In a normal year only a small fraction of voters would even turn over the ballot, much less know or care what judges were up for retention. This vote was fueled primarily by the Iowa Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marraige in Iowa, and millions of out-of-state dollars poured into this state to get out the "no" vote. This story shouldn't get lost in the shuffle! Our court system was hijacked by out-of-state interests. Are they going to be around to pay the price, since they paid for the decision? Of course not. Thank you for your time.
Well, it's obvious we've got to get the Money OUT of the electorial process period!
