While you may have only seen a small snippet or a little bit of it, it seems here like we have hosted the world for the past four days...the world of education. I'd like to thank everyone for attending and for understanding. I'm not an expert on education--but I tried to serve as questioner and host to the best of my ability. We are not tent-makers, and so when our tent failed on the plaza, we enforced our home field advantage and moved it all into the SNL Studio. We might have lost our tent, but we sure raised the roof on the subject of education. Every participant brought their best game. Thanks to all. Let's do it again next year.
We look forward to seeing you tonight.

Thanks to Janet Shamlian for the update on the Grand Ole Opry. It's an amazing feat and shows what can be done when there is total commitment to a goal or, in this case, a legend.
Hi Brian
Chuck Todd is really scary and Comcast might be talking to him soon. Chuck said he believes Sarah Palin is a great choice, candidate for President and would be a good President. Now that's not fair/balance reporting it's insane. Chuck's out look for the Tea Party and wing nuts like Christine O Donnell and other nuts is really a sad view of NBC. We watched the GOP and a hand full of Democrats just block a bill that would have made businesses keep jobs in the USA. Now businesses can keep outsourcing and even continue to get those big tax breaks. Notice how all the candidates are campaigning now keeping jobs and developing jobs in the US while voting to let them continue to go overseas.
We have more horror during during the Iraq/Afghanistan Wars but the orders came from the top and Americans will never admit we were the real Axis of Evil. Bush and Cheney should have been impeached but with so many law makers involved it would have wiped out our Government law makers. At the top of the list was Nancy Pelosi who had no choice but to defend Bush/Cheney. The United Nations will have to charge Bush/Cheney will War Crimes or in the future another country will do the same thing. Americans really couldn't take the truth of what happen and why during the 8 years of crimes.
Good news about the Grand old Opry as it's a large part of America for all.
As we hear the call to end Health Care we're learning many of those law makers and candidate get Federal health care and some go to Canada for free health care. It's clear those who are fighting to end health care are paid by the corporations to do so. The GOP leaders feel if you can't afford the high health care premiums then just die.
Yes this is part of change and it will continue as our country goes on the computer. Taxes are easy now on line but many people will have to catch up.
Brian I'm not saying I'm sorry I'll just say oops.
The clip shown on tonights show is nice but let's walk the walk and talk the talk this time as for so many years Teachers have been carrying the load alone.
Have a good evening all

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A fine broadcast this evening as always!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Todd about the newest Wall Street Journal Poll numbers which showed how voters do not like the way Washington is doing business and things need to change. Voters have manyt issues of concern in their minds and they are unhappy with the current leadership of the two parties. The results of the primaries held this summer was evident of voters concern and this will have a major affect on the upcoming Mid-Term elections held in November.
Glad to know that Former President Carter is recovering after feeling ill and being taken to the hospital. Hoping he recovers quickly.
The piece by Mr.Brokaw about what makes a great teacher was interesting and also the analysis by Bill Gates. Hearing from teachers on being evaluated more frequently was encouraging and one can agree te evaluations need to be fair to reflect what is happening in the classroom. Making education better for children to give them a bright future.
The piece by Janet Shamlian about the comeback of the Grand Ole Opry after being damaged by the flooding showed how quickly work was done to restore the concert hall. It looked really wonderful and the sold out concert tonight should be excellent with all the great country music stars!
Enjoyed the recap at the end of the broadcast showing comments made by people during the Education Nation Summit at Rockefeller Center. Some inspiring comments!
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Again, CONGRATULATIONS TO NBC NIGHTLY NEWS AND DATELINE ON WINNING EMMY AWARDS! Peace to You and to All!

"Make the environment exciting; care for the individual – treat them as an individual, and teach them on many levels not just academic..;)"
Brian, please - I absolutely respect the brick and mortar instructors and their classroom environments. I do hope that you and your organization will also recognize another huge contingency of educators who strive very hard to accomplish the same mission that you spoke about and we do it in very unique and creative ways - the online professors..;)
The beauty of online learning is "In your own space and in your time.;) and this environment is literally growing exponentially - if an individual has a laptop or even a smartphone today he or she can go to school online..;)
I earned the majority of my degrees online and I love the online teaching environment! I have been teaching online since 2005.;) I hold contests and send prizes including iTune e-certificates and books and I have sent prizes all over the country..;) I send letters of recommendation.;)
We care deeply about our learners, especially in these extraordinary times. I had one learner who was living out of his car and using the library to attend the online class. We are very aware of the challenging times and do everything we can to help engage the learners.;) Many of them have outstanding lived experiences but because of changing technologies and or work environments, they are turning to a virtual classroom and it is scary for many of them! I let them know I care, I respect their knowledge and experience, and that together we will turn that degree of lived experiences into a degree on paper confirming their outstanding talents.
Dedicated teaching/facilitating comes in many varieties with today's evolving technology and I wanted to share one more of those varieties.;) Respectfully, Dr. Carrie,;)
Good evening, Brian.
As I wrote here last night, Education Nation has been outstanding, and very moving and motivating as a college student myself. I do agree that when you feel a teacher/professor cares about you as an individual it makes a big difference. I was motivated today to talk with one of my professors before class about an issue, and I saw that she did care to help and it really made a huge difference to me to see that. It is amazing the impact teachers have on your life growing up. I hope there are some very young kids out there who've been watching and have been inspired by Education Nation to either work hard at their dreams or become a teacher to help others. I bet there are a few, if not many, out there. So thank you for bringing it to us.
Thank you for the broadcast. And may I point out that you, Brian, have apologized many times here on your blog. So, maybe there are guys out there who don't apologize much, but at least you make the effort here! Thanks for that ;) And a great big CONGRATULATIONS on the Emmys for NBC Nightly News! Very well deserved, and a round of applause for the entire crew! Job well done!
Goodnight,
-Cary
hola, brian,
back when i still had energy and the caregiving for my dad hadn't started yet, i tutored algebra at mary's mission, here, a juvie home for kids who would otherwise be in a detention center. not many of them came to the table. most of them got f's for the semester. but there were two who made an impression, both african-american one whose alternative classroom teacher was glad that he was getting serious help with his homework, and another who played on the high school j.v. football team. i would wait until he got home from practice. after about 5 data homework nights with him, i was going tuedays and thursdays, he didn't need me that next time. he said, 'my homework is done, miss, i've been paying attention in class'. wow. heck, if you can conquer the math in school, everything else is a piece of cake. he did rant and rave at me, though, those first 2-3 sessions, complaining about the irrationality of the math. it was a great feeling to have even just one real success story out of the bunch. one summer, i did art with them. another success story there with several of them. i took in my good art supplies that i, myself, was using, including bisque ceramic tiles, for them to paint on with non-fire paints. i was going a bit nuts, there were 8 of them and each one was working on a different project! OMG! one summer, i taught a little head-starter down the street her abc's and her numbers. i went crazy with the abc song. 'jklmnop' was one letter to her! it took 2 weeks to get her to break that down! after i fried her little attention span, we would do art and i made her sign her work, like all good artists. i found out later that she was the only one in head start who could write her name:-)
when netta down the street was still in middle school, i sent in a dvd from the clay mathematics institute that they had developed for math awareness month. it was 'the right spin', with astronaut michael foale and robert osserman, about the rescue of the mir, the soviet space station in space. netta had my 8th grade math teacher, who was still teaching! she is an amazing woman, in fact, they ended up naming the school after her:-)
i am going to break down and order some immune system medicinal mushroom capsules that i took several bottles of back when my father passed in 2007 and i had to sleep sitting up because of my hacking cough. i hacked all through the entire funeral mass, it was awful. my son said, 'i sure hope you're not contagious!' i think it was sinuses, but i have been fighting painful sinuses and scratchy throat for awhile, they were out of them at whole foods in tucson, where i went for my nephew's wedding, but i found paul stamets' site on the web to order online. dr. andrew weil's mega-mushroom skin relief lotion is working great on my poor face. i thought i'd do the same for my immune system, yowza. i hope the nightly staff got over their respiratory illnesses. not fun.
congratulations to nbc on their emmy wins! and congratulations to richard engel, as well!
i missed alot while i was in tucson! i am tired, so i am slowly catching up. i can't believe you noticed the dandruff on 'mad men', the continuity thing. i don't have cable to watch t.v., so i am missing out on all of the fun. it's all i can do to keep up with the few web mailing lists that i am on and the astronomy picture of the day! i wonder how many super computers the contents of your brain's database would fill if you are noticing all of these little details, wow! which helps explain why you are who you are:-)
best, anna martina
I've never been to a Tea Party Rally, (I'm such a slacker) but what I'd like to see is all these people who went into capitalism to prove it doesn't work get what they deserve. Too much to ask?
Hey you know how the communist wing of the progressive party is always accusing anyone who disagrees with them a Nazi? Pretty funny that a bunch of Socialist are gathering this weekend under a bastardized American flag with a Nationalistic theme. Doesn't that kind of make them the National Socialist Workers Party? Think Homer would say Doh!!
Brian: You did a great job asking questions about the education system. I know it's not easy up there, but you did ok. Education, especially in elementary school is so important, I'm dissapointed it's not discussed more often in the media. Education Nation was a great beginning for media exposure. I would like to see more media stories about this most important subject. Again, nice job. I'll catch you on tonight's broadcast.
BRIAN!!!
I don't know if you can fix this, but have you noticed that the website for Education Nation doesn't have a section for teachers??? I mean, aren't teachers kind of an important part of education?? I'm studying to become a darn good music teacher right now and at my progressive liberal arts school we discuss everything going on in education right now, big ideas, old ideas, new ideas, and I would LOVE to know what other teachers are saying, doing, and finding resources, especially on the internet! So. A section for the teachers on the Education Nation site would be awesome. Doesn't it make you wonder where the focus was if the wonderful information you gathered wasn't made practical for use in everyone's classrooms? Or at least categorized and made searchable in some way?
Also, I really enjoy watching the news every night (which is not something most 20-somethings would say!) and I love the personality you bring - don't take that the wrong way! I appreciate your non-invasive and tolerant viewpoint - it shows how much character is under that public image of cool and collected but still might have a huge amount of fun. :)
Thanks for all you do
(no really, all of it)
I think you are about to receive much more feedback about "Education Nation" that might lead to a much better, informative ... even valuable summit if you truly plan to, "Do it again next year." For example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brian-crosby/nbcs-education-nation-and_b_748550.html
- But there are many more out there if you or your support staff look for them. Please show us that you really do want a serious "in depth" discussion, and that this time was just not knowing or being aware that there are other issues and points of view from actual experts about this extremely important topic.
Thanks,
