With apologies for my own absence

It's hard to describe exactly why, but my schedule in New Orleans made each day like Groundhog Day, and each day I failed to take the time to post in this space. I was moving every second -- I had news functions and official functions and places to go and people to meet and interviews to conduct and stories to cover. My apologies.

Thanks to JetBlue, we're back -- and now we're all about preparing our hurricane coverage. Perhaps I'll make up for lost time and post an entry on what we experienced there, or how the City is doing. If I wrote 10,000 words I could not express the way the people there have made me feel, simply for doing my job. They mean the world to me, and to us.

We hope you can join us on the broadcast tonight.

been watching Earl all day from So. Maine... just in case he decides to take a swipe at me. Maine is so overdue for a direct hit. Either way I am sure the NBC team is up to the task in keeping everyone informed even if I loose power.

As always, your New Orleans coverage was second to none. Must say "thank you" to Mrs. Williams and the kids for sharing you with us, Brian. As for not blogging while you were there, I totally understand!

Accepting your apology regarding the footage you showed this evening during the dinner hour of the bedbugs, yep, that's what I'm usually doing while I'm watching the broadcast.

The Making A Difference story was cute and adorable, that kid that almost thru himself down the lane with the ball made me feel kinda good, no, not because he could've hurt himself, because it let me know there's actually another human being on the planet that's almost as terrible as I am when it comes to bowling.

      Brian,

Like Shirley I am bad at bowling. In a couple's group in church I won the booby prize and my mother-in-law

thought it was funny but my father-in-law asked, "Is that the best you can do?" Good for the kids.

Nothing surprises me about the British who are bored with their children. Winston Churchill was quoted

as saying "I am bored with it all." It must be a British thing. I will tune in to the president's speech this

evening. An excellent broadcast, as always. Phyllis

Good evening, Brian! You have absolutely no reason to apologize for not writing (also forgive you for the bed bugs bit), especially considering all the wonderful work you did down there. It's completely understandable how busy you were, and I was thinking anyway that it'd be hard to put into words what all it felt like to be in New Orleans on this five year anniversary. When you're in the moment like that with so many emotions, there often aren't enough words to write down what you're feeling. Though, if you do find the time to make up for what you could have written, I'd be very happy to read it!

Thank you for the broadcast. I was afraid I'd already missed president Obama's speech on Iraq while in class today, but glad to know I didn't. Great as always to see Richard Engel in studio with you tonight. He offers the greatest, most honest perspective, and always considers the military families' concerns. I greatly admire him for that, and all the great work he's done over the years. Sorry to have missed his Q&A (as a friend notified me of) during class today, but glad to see so many asking excellent questions. Many Americans have forgotten or lost interest in Iraq and Afghanistan, but so many of us have not. Such an awful number of casualties in Afghanistan since Saturday. All are in my thoughts and prayers.

A wonderful Making A Difference story, as always. It's so nice to see things like this coming around when people are being hit so hard in this economy. We need more things/people like this around the country.

I look forward to joining you to watch President Obama's speech on Iraq, and hope to hear him talk about what else is to come for Iraq and also for Afghanistan.

See you soon, and have a good evening.

        -Cary

P.S. Kudos to JetBlue for getting you home safely! (I haven't even flown yet and am already signed up for frequent flyer miles with Delta...!)

Brian---if you would share the name of the bowling alley in Flint that has been helping all those children, I would send a couple of bucks their way as a way to say thanks for their generosity

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A great broadcast this evening. Wonderful to have you back in New York! Always wonderful to see Richard in the studio on the broadcast with you!

Now on to the broadcast. First of all the War in Iraq and President Obama's speech this evening. Richard has been reporting on the Iraq War since the beginnning and hearing you say he winced at seeing some of the bombings is truly understandable. As Richard stated that Iraq is a very dangerous place as the violence increased at the time of the US Combat Troops withdrew. Richard saying Iran had a revolution, Iraq went from a dictatorship with Saddam Hussein to a failed democracy with many different parties which have not worked together in getting a government formed. It was terrible to think of a civil war happening if a government is not formed by the end of the year. The US Troops remaining have to work on the bases and the Iraqi Forces must work to secure the region. It is a moral dilemma for the US Soldiers, since they cannot rush into combat. One always hopes for peace for all the Iraqi people. One hopes the US Troops can come home soon!

Always Excellent Analysis Richard! Wonderful to see you in the studio!

So very tragic to hear of five US Soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

And at Arlington National Cemetary seeing the family bury 3 sons who served so bravely in the war was heartwrenching. My thoughts and prayers go out to them and all the military families.

              God Bless All of Them.

On another note the track of Hurricane Earl certainly is posing a threat to the Eastcoast and New England shoreline. Hearing the forecast and path tells people to be prepared to evacuate any shorelinec areas. Teh problem though is not really knowing where it will make an impact so many people are not taking any chances and preparing early.

The report by Mr.Mott told of the potiental problems that could be caused by Hurricane Earl and people should be definitely ready to go if needed. I hope the storm moves away from the shoreline and doesn't cause any major damage.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Cowan about the Richfield Bowling Alley having a program for kids to bowl free was really nice. It brings some joy and smiles to children and their parents which is a vital thing to have happen! The area hard hit by the terrible economy it is a bright spot to have this program. And it seems extremely popular!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Looking forward to your coverage of President Obama's address to the nation. Wonderful to see Richard in the studio! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!

              Be Well Always!

Stay Extra Safe And Sound Stephanie!

Stay Extra,Extra Safe And Well Richard! Excellent Analysis As Always!

Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

Enjoyed reading the Q and A from you Live Chat earlier today Richard! Enjoyed Seeing you on the Today Show this morning!

              XOXO

Mr Williams, I have thought for a long time about broaching this subject. I really enjoy your broadcasts. but the fact that you show such little respect for our President really ticks me off. Don't get me wrong, you are not the only one , but your constant reference to Mr Obama, or Obama's this or Obama's that is just so wrong. He is our President and should be listed as President Obama or when speaking to him, Mr President. I have lost a little respect for you because of this. Please try to rectify this.

Brian, President Obama's speech last night surpassed his "Cario speech". What jumped out at me was

"We have perservered because of a belief we share with the Iraqi people--a belief that out of the ashes

of war, a new beginning could be born in this cradle of civilization." Phyllis

                      Assets = Liabilities + Equity.
We invested 708 billion dollars and counting. Paid with American blood, sweat, tears, lives. What is the Asset? A free and stable Iraq? This balance sheet does not balance.

I love the Oval Office new decor. Discard the cold, museum look... A comfy, inviting space instead is lovely.

                      Phyllis, great quote!!

Phyllis, Keneisha and I are consumed with today's AM Post. Michael Douglas says a "multitude of doctors put me thru a battery of tests and found nothing." We are talking about stage 4 cancer!!. Aren't these suppose to be brilliant doctors who attended good medical schools? We don't get it!! How could this be?!
What is the failure saying? Thank goodness Mr. Douglas was persistent.

Yea..the Oval Office decor is the bomb..fly!! Nice sofa.
And Brian and all those top journalists get to visit the Oval Office..how cool is that?!

Keneisha is influenced by Glenn Beck's rally. She now wants us to visit Washington.

Home today and the hot topic on talk radio -"All you guys are doing is exciting the Islamic bias."

Brian: Don't be sorry for not posting any blogs. I know the news business is hectic, especially outside of the news room. The stories broadcast from New Orleans were very moving, including the people you interviewed five years after Katrina. Hurricane Earl is now barreling towards part of the East Coast and it looks like their may be some severe damage from North Carolina all the way to New England; however most of it will be coastal. It seems as though there will be a string of bad wheather heading across the Atlantic. I hope these systems all veer to the North East! I'm glad tou made it back to the Big Apple safely. I'll catch you tonight for the broadcast.

Brian, I'm a Indiana University journalism college student that appreciates your broadcast each and every night. There is always a lesson to learn never be late or show up for work. There are strict deadlines. However, can you interview your daughter for NBC? What's she doing for grad school or post her Yale University Life? We don't hear much from your family is to our own when we see the nightly news.

Brian, I suppose you are now busy with Rock Center and will not get back to posting your blogs, which all of us

miss. I enjoyed re-reading the above comments. Phyllis
