Back-page coverage of this thing of ours

Our thanks to our friends at the New York Post for making our small community famous today! Their television section very graciously picked up on my Mad Men blog—in which I came out as a continuity error nitpicking basketcase, and I've heard from a lot of people today who didn't see it the first time.

We are also able to break a story on this blog last night: Based on a hunch I had early in the week (channeling my inner aviation geek) that the FAA would shut down the airspace over Kingston/Rhinebeck, NY. And on Wednesday night, they did -- and with the help of the superb Jay Blackman of our DC bureau, we managed to enrich the world by getting that tidbit of aviation/nuptial news out there.

All in all, a busy week for our humble blog and your humble blogger!

Back to the news: We hope you can join us tonight.

Why aren't the NBC personalities a part of the NBC tour?
Took the tour..but no Ann Curry or Rachel.
Thank you for this week's blog.

Brian owes Janie Bryant (costume designer on Mad Men) an apology re Joey's sweater vest. They did indeed exist during this time period, actually back to the 1950s. A quick Google of "1950s sweater vest" brings up all sorts of images, including a his and hers version (hers a regular cardigan with long sleeves, his the sleeveless vest) complete with kitschy bowling balls appliqued on the front. There are also knitting patterns from the eary to mid 1950s for shown for golfers' sweater vest, both button down and pullover varieties. And yes, Brian, they existed in Canada, too. "Sweater vest Fridays" originated at the engineering school at Dalhousie.

Thank you for Janet Shamlian's report on the rogue wellhead in Barataria Bay. 1 day = 12. Must be some new type of math in the oil industry. And, did you see any activity trying to cap that wellhead? As the charter captain said, "More wellheads than people". A sobering (200,000) thought.

I read the NY Post article on the subway today.

This Sunday when you watch the show try this, just sit back, put your feet up, put your notepad and pen down and just relax and enjoy the show, do ya think you are capable of doing that are will your hands start shaking like a dependent person who needs their daily "fix" ??

To Brian Williams: Why do you twist your neck around when you're reading the news? The other reporters look straight into the camera while they're talking. You twist your head around to where we can see the whole side of your head. It's very distracting. Why do you do this? (And more important: Can you, and will you, stop doing it?)

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A fine broadcast this evening as always. Mr.Blackman of the D.C. Bureau really incovered some news when he found out the FAA had shutdown airspace over Kingston/Rhinebeck NY. I hope the Chelsea has a beautiful wedding. It looks like a very nice place to have a wedding.

Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Miklaszewski concerning the reports of mental health problems with soldiers coming home after so many multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Hearing thr numbers of soldiers attempting suicide and those who took their own lives it is just heartbreaking and tragic. It is a failure of the military leadership because they ingored problems. Not checking problems with new recruits is terrible. The soldiers deserve the best in counseling and care during their deployment and after they return home which can be even harder for them to re-adjust.

The report about mismanagement at Arlington National Cemetary is utterly inexusable and the officials ought to be reprimanded. Not keeping proper records of where our brave and honorable fallen soldiers are buried is just plain awful. These soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice and they deserve to be bured with honor. Things certainly need to be changed at managment at Arlington National Cemetary.

On another note the report by Anne Thompson from Venice,LA showed how residents and officials in the region are worried about BP and the Coast Guard leaving the area. There is still so much oil in the Gulf and as shown in the report smaller pieces of oil have been turning up in the waters and the coastline. Hopefully, BP and the Coast Guard will stay an keep cleaning up the Gulf as the time nears when the well is permanently capped.

The report by Janet Shamlian about the smaller well spewing oil into the Gulf showed how there are so many wells in the Gulf it is hard to make sure all of them are capped properly. One hopes this well will stop spewing oil ASAP!

The photograph of the 18year old girl on the cover of Time Magazine is disturbing and shows how the taliban can hurt the civilians extremely cruelly. An emotional photograph.

The piece by Stephanie Gosk from Sweden about the book "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was interesting. Quite and exciting book and when made into a film it could make a big star of the actress who plays the lead. Time will tell.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!

            Be Well Always!

Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!

Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

              Brian,

I was horrified by the cover of TIME magazine which arrives in the mail on Saturdays, so I'll have to wait

              to read the article.

On a lighter note, I think Scarlett Johannson would be great as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Liked

her in Match Point. I do not recall what year I saw it, but it was the best movie of the year, in my

opinion, probably because it was like an Alfred Hitchcock film.

Another terrific broadcast as always. On a personal note. I am glad we have a big-screen T.V. The

small screen does not do you justice.

              Have a nice evening!!

Phyllis. I too saw "Match Point"-- Have the DVD. Although a terrific actress.....this movie will be better served with an unknown actress.
                I so love Scarlett.
Phyllis..Fox is basing Obama's "THE VIEW" visit.
                Well...heading back home late Friday..
                Thanks ladies for all advice.

                  Mimi,

I do not understand why Fox is bashing President Obama for being on "The View" You're __— if you do,

and ____— if you don't as his wife once said and she is right. I also have Match Point on DVD. From the

sound of it the movie will go to an unknown, but I think Scarlett would be perfect, though she may be

prettier than "The Girl with The Dragon" as described in the book which I have not read yet, just pick up

comments on the book. Still Scarlett is edgy. Have a safe trip.

                    Thank you.
Since it was my first "subway" event..traveling alone on NY subway..
I feel I should share this-
A teen was with an adult on the train..and the outburst from the kid-
                    "I HATE YOU!!"
                    "Phony!!"
                    Very strong words...
                    Goodbye, Phyllis.

I read about Mad Men it's sounds alot like many men we read about today.

I saw Barack on the View today. He did real good and even tried to help Elizabeth understand how many people had their jobs saved. We now know Obama doesn't know who Snookie is and that he wasn't invited to Chelsea's wedding. People seem to think Obama and Chelsea are buds. It's nice Chelsea is inviting people she wants to invited and it's not being taken over by Bill and Hillary.

Brian so many stations are reporting on the deaths of our soldiers and even the lack of support. You really woud think these two Wars started on Jan. 20, 2009 and not 2002. We had over 4000 soldiers die in Iraq that the Media didn't report and thousands of injuried soldiers that nothing was said. Soldiers have been taking their own lives for many many years long before Obama thought about running for President yet no one bothered to say a thing.

I watched a show our Law Makers could learn a lesso from it's on ABC Now ( Cable) it's called Eliquette 101 for children as it teaches Manners Madder with Annie Murphy. Just think parents now need to learn from a TV show how to teach their kids manners. I thought the worse was the Bush Administration taking a class in ethics.

We heard the Military leak is a violation of National Security and as Gates said it cost people their lives. Well Dick Cheney did the same thing by leaking Covert CIA Agent Plames name and her supporters in Iran were murdered yet no one thought that was a problem. Even a Judge said Agent Plame had no case as it wasn't a crime during the Bush years. Foreigners should really think twice before believeing the US before giving them information. Your only as good as your word. Once our Military started enlisting ex cons, drug addicts and people with metal problems this was going to happen. Most of the soldiers loved going to Afghanistan where cocaine can be picked from the fields. Reporters act like these problems just happen when Obama took office. Americans hadn't been interested in the hardships or the deaths of our troops for over 7 years now it's all over the press.

                      have a great evening all

Brian: I guess the location of the wedding wasn't such a big secret after all. I wouldn't want to be driving in that area because it inevitably will be a traffic nightmare! Don't forget the presence of the secret service and all the prime ministers dignitaries and so forth. What about that other wedding that is going to be held tomorrow? That poor bride has to worry that all guests will arive at her reception on time, because of blocked roads. It must have been a shock to that couple when they found out that not only would the big wedding occur near their location, but on the same day. Tell N.B.C. to send a crew up there to also cover (not only Chelsea's wedding) the other couple as well.

                          Brian,

The wedding was a big secret so it follows that they went covert on their honeymoon. Best wishes

to the Bride and Congratulations to the Bridegroom.
