Greetings from a hot and steamy New York City. It seemed like such a good idea to walk to work today. Sitting in front of a fan for 15 minutes once I got here turned out to be an even better idea. Memo to self: New York City cabs are air-conditioned.
We're juggling a lot for tonight's broadcast including more on what tropical depression – but soon to become a tropical storm again – Alex is going to do once it gets back out over the Gulf of Mexico. We'll have more from Anne Thompson's extraordinary tour of the rig where crews are drilling one of the relief wells that are expected to stop the oil leak once and for all. We're previewing this week's Senate confirmation hearing for Elena Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court. Also, Richard Engel has the story of one of the deadliest attacks on U.S. forces in the war in Afghanistan, and the parents of the dead who refused to stop pressing the Pentagon for answers about how and why they died.
I hope you will join us tonight for NBC Nightly News.

hola, lester, i remember when i was pregnant with my second child in june and july in st. louis, missouri. yowza. here, in arizona, i have a swamp cooler, the monsoons are coming, humidity renders swamp coolers ineffective. i hope i'm sweating out lots of toxins! i may have to go to the empty parents' house in july and august, where my sister had air-conditioning installed:-) i'll take richard's book 'war journal' to read. will be going over to a friends shortly to watch richard's dateline special. dexter wrote about the hazara in his most recent article, they have the y-chromosome of the descendants of genghis khan. taliban waged genocide against them, killing 100,000 after the soviets left before we came. geesh, what's the answer to that one? alot of them have left the country, educated themselves and are doing very well without persecution. dexter did not give a favorable review to sebastien's book 'war', so i will not be buying that to read. if i was in afghanistan, i would be making fresh cream and fruit popsicles for the kids in the neighborhood. here, i give a $ to a young african-american boy who lives down the street from me so that he can go get an ice cream cone at mcdonalds. it's time for andre to wash my car again, maybe then the monsoons will come:-) andre will be happy about those $. his grandma asked for and will get tomatoes, peaches and zuchinni when they ripen. i can't watch the oil spill news, it's too much for my poor nerves, but the people, the animals, the beaches and the ocean are in my prayers. i get the gist of it from lisa and cary's blogs. the other night i picked a sprig of sweet basil from my yard to do a stir-fry. this incredible feeling of peace and contentment descended upon me, i couldn't believe it. it was just a little sprig of basil! i can't wait to see what i feel like when i pick the first tomatoes! take very good care, stay cool, blessings, anna martina
This needs to stay in the trash where it belongs: INSIDE EDITION and FOX NEWS.
The announcement of the Gores' separation has tabloid trash news digging for trash.
Known to pay vast sums of money for inside information to shameless "close acquaintances"-
We are told-- a woman, a masseuse, is claiming that Vice President Gore made unwanted sexual advances during a massage.
She waits two years to formally file a complaint with proper authorities.
Her Reason?
She is "afraid because Gore is powerful."
Knowing what a deep, thoughtful, careful thinker Al Gore is, I can't imagine Mr. Gore losing
composure and behaving so recklessly.
His presidential campaign was sadly derailed due to President Clinton's poor decisions/choices and although
Gore triumphed, in the end, by winning the popular vote, his dream of being President was not meant
to be.
Would he have taken this nation to war?
NO!!
I don't want these accusations (true or false) to tarnish / harm the VP's lengthy, noble service to the American people
and his service to the environment.
hola, mimi, now here's a really big one. al gore won the election, just ask brian williams. as soon as he did, he took a bullet to the head. so, we had a choice, a dead president-elect or a living al gore. i ran into the jackass who pulled the trigger in walmart, here, one night. he knew i knew it was him, he was walking straight at me, when he saw the look in my eye, he veered and went down the next aisle. he was afraid of me, how odd. except that in this realm, who knows what kinds of powers we have. they knew exactly what you said, al gore would not have taken us into war. he was very bad klu klux klan. war is lots of money for the jerks who skim off the top of every military account. that's the real news story, who are the jerks who have gotten rich off of our war machine? we could probably cut the deficit in half with those funds and they hide them in the grand caymans and the rest of the caribbean. so, put on your little thinking cap, where would you put money if you were them? there and the swiss banks. i thought i was crazy about the al gore bullet but when i told it to my son, who was visiting, he said, very tersely, 'yeah, but he's back now'. truth is sure stranger than fiction. yowza. take very good care, blessings, anna martina p.s. when they got my brother in panama for finding the paper trail of the iran contra scandal, he blew up like a balloon, he was huge. ditto for my nephew when they got him in new london, missouri, because of work that his father was doing in his spare time, in a capacity as citizen. citizen is a very interesting word.
rojo,
"I don't want these accusations (true or false) to tarnish / harm the VP's lengthy, noble service to the American people and his service to the environment."
So left wing politicians should get away with anything simply because they are left wing politicians? Ted Kennedy can kill a young woman and get away with it, Clinton can harass as many women as he wants and Algore can molest a woman and it's all okay because they supported left wing causes when they were in office. They are even hailed as great supporters of women's rights but you folks wanted to lynch Clarence Thomas because he said "there's a pubic hair in my coke."? I suppose that seems logical to those who think all money earned by the American worker belongs to the government and we should be thankful they allow us to keep some of it.
Good Evening Mr.Holt, An excellent broadcast this evening as always. Just watched Richard's Dateline Special, "A Father's Mission" and it was so extremely moving. So very tragic the loss of the soldiers in that fierce battle at Wanat. It was horrible to have an outpost in that area and the soliders understood the dangers. One wonders why the higher chains of Command did not realize it too. Seeing the soldiers in the video and hearing their words foretold of the dangers. It was heartbreaking to hear from the fathers and mothers and sister of the soldiers and learn of their son's and brother's concerns of the battle. Each one of the soldiers was so brave and dedicated to his duty to serve our nation. It is heartwrenching to understand why this terrible battle had to happen. One can fully understand why Dave Brostrom the father of Jonathan Brostrom, one of the soldiers who was killed in the battle, wanted answers to so many questions as to why this happened and to all the mistakes that were made by the chain of command.
My heart goes out to all the families of the soldiers who were lost in that battle. Thoughts and Prayers to all the Families.
Richard did an excellent job as always. Richard always brings the stories of the soldiers and their families to the forefront and that is so vitally important. Richard does and extraordinary job!
An excellent job Richard! Please Stay Extra,Extra Safe Always!
On another note regarding the broadcast the report by Anne Thompson concerning the clean-up efforts in the Gulf and the oncoming storm told of much anxiety by all the people working in the region. The confidence of the man on the ship telling of the building of relief wells was encourging since this may be the only method to stop the leak.
The report by Mr.Potter showing the oil soaked beaches along Alabama was so heartbreaking to see. There is no possible way the workers can keep up with the waves of oil coming onto the sand and the workers are becoming ill from the oil and the intense heat. One hopes there will be a better way to clean-up the oil along these beaches.
The piece by Mr.Sanders about ideas from people on ways to clean up the oil was quite interesting and some of these ideas may be effective. Anything is possible!
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Excellent Dateline Special Richard! Peace to You and to All!
Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Very Moving and Emotional Special on Dateline!
Take Extra Good Care Always Richard and Crew!
XOXO
Lisa
Anna.
Don't quite get your blog, but then again, I am currently brain dead.
In the midst of Q&A.
Today, read a pal's email with an interesting attachment.
If this woman was truly OFFENDED by Gore's unwanted sexual contact, the proper
thing to do is NOT to seek 1 million dollars for her story.
Offended?
SCREAM the OFFENSE to a listening ear.
Sale of a tale.
Pathetic.
Even if the accusation is proven true, the woman is still PATHETIC!
Shame we can't step off into that alternative universe where Gore was allowed to steal the 2000 election, 9-11 happens and then that November have the stories from the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, CNN and AP. come out that Bush really won Florida. Talk about a chit storm and leaving the Socialist Party (there is no democrat party anymore) without a Bush to hide behind. Kind of like right now. They have all the power but some how it's everyone else's fault.
Dave.
Are you my velcro child?
I was waiting for you to pop up.
Hate my ideology, don't ya?
Well, this is what our military is sweating, dying for?
(Borrowing a Sarah barracuda Palin line)
Okay. Let me clear my mind so I can rap with ya.
(And, respectfully, I must add.)
2000. Did not pay close attention to the Bush/Gore election.
Jump forward to the here, the now.
Not only did brain washed/ brain dead Americans bought into "God. Gays. Guns." -
They drank the nonsense of Iraq.
Iraq did not attack us on 9/11. Bin Laden did.
What is it now? Over 7,000 dead and wounded military personnel?!
History reveals Bush inherited a surplus and left America in some serious debt.
Did not think, did they?
Can we afford two wars?
Obviously, not asked.
How do you fund two endless wars? WELL. Giving obscene tax breaks/cuts to the RICH and to Corporate America!
REPULICANS. My opinion? Nut logs.
Now, I am exhaling..
Ya see... Dave, you choose so eloquently to label "Socialist"... So be it.
I, myself, prefer and is proud of LIBERAL.
When Jesus walked the Earth, HE made it known- "I am not here for the rich, I search for the poor, the rejected."
Giving decent healthcare to those in need is noble.
Assisting the unemployed in these dire days, is noble.
Protecting consumers is noble.
Pulling America from the Bush GULLY is noble.
When you hire incompetence. You get incompetence.
At this moment, I remember my Grandma and her love of the Bible-
"Whatever you do to the very least of these my brothers...you do it to me."
rojo,
Buying votes with other people's money isn't noble. It's theft.
You can't pull us out of the gully by digging a deeper gully.
Our young president is proving you are right about hiring incompetence.
Your grandma sounds like a wise lady.
Yes Dave Al Gore is the cause of all the problems such as the Two Wars and even the Recession. I talways wondered how a person who cheated would be paid back. As the bible says you get back 7 times what you give. Well that clears up the President /Vice President awards for 2000 to 2008. We can spin/blame and even lie about history but facts don't change. Al Gore was robbed and even members of the Supreme Court refuse to discuss it because well it's history. But like everything we do God is watching. Our fomer Presidents are working and invited to other countries to speak and see old friends. Notice how no invites to Bush or Cheney. What's strang is Cheney and Bush visited their good friend the Saudi King many many times yet it seems since Jan. 20, 2009 that close friendship is over. Not one old or new World Leader has anything to do with Bush or Cheney. Now Daddy Bush has both hips broken so he's in no sharp to do much. When you hear people say " Oh God why me" think about what reason those words are spoken.
Lester, speaking of alternative universe, Ann's story last night regarding longevity was nothing to
shout about. The Promise is eternal life now. So far, so good. The alternative is death and the
Second Resurrection. Phyllis
